    Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich invites car enthusiasts to a fundraising event on Thursday, August 17 from 5 – 6:30 pm, to help fund its mission to inspire people of all ages to explore, discover, and learn together. Curious to get a look under the hoods at the engines in its auto collection? Interested in horsepower, bore and stroke, or other technical details? This unique event invites you to get up close and personal with the Museum’s one-of-a-kind antique and classic car collection. Go behind-the-scenes into Heritage’s auto storage area and maintenance garage and get face-to-fender with these fascinating machines. Enjoy private access to the automobile exhibit From Carriage to Classic: How Automobiles Transformed America, and watch and listen as select cars from Heritage’s collection are started up for your enjoyment. Meet expert members of our Auto Committee and learn what it takes to maintain this world-class collection. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet like-minded aficionados and to get all your in-depth classic car questions answered. This month’s program will feature an in-depth look at the 1946 Mercury Woodie Station Wagon and the 1965 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. $15 Heritage members, $25 nonmembers.   • Wednesday, July 20, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – National Garden Club Flower Show: Cape Cod Legends

    This major New England flower show is presented at Heritage Museums & Gardens by the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts Southeastern District’s garden clubs and its award-winning Design Study Group. See beautiful, creative floral and botanical arts designs and educational exhibits! Flower show docents will be on hand to answer visitors’ questions and provide design details and know-how.

    This year’s theme of “Cape Legends” celebrates some of the Cape’s most famous people, with 13 creative and very diverse classes along with two educational exhibits, all displayed in Heritage’s spacious Heald Center. Entrance to the flower show is free with admission or membership. No advance registration required.

    Please note:  The “Cape Legends” Flower Show will open once judging is complete, around 1:00 pm.

  • Sunday, August 17, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm – One Day University at Heritage Museum & Gardens

    One Day University returns to Heritage Museum & Gardens in East Sandwich on Sunday, August 17th (9:30am -1:00pm.) This unique event features three award-winning professors from three top-tier schools. Each one is renowned for their teaching ability, and each will give a fascinating 60-minute lecture – LIVE!

    Every school has a few professors who are wildly popular . . . the professors listed below have won dozens of teaching awards and earned the highest possible ratings from their students on campus. Now they’re coming to Heritage for a truly unique and exhilarating morning. There are no grades, no tests, and no homework – just the joy of lifelong learning.

  • Saturday, May 17 – Sunday, May 25, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm – Heritage Museum & Gardens Rhododendron Festival

    Thousands of acclaimed rhododendrons in over 100 varieties in a profusion of colors will envelop the grounds at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich, MA, during a week-long festival May 17 – 25 that celebrates the bountiful blooms.

    Visitors can enjoy a peaceful walk surrounded by walls of flowers, learn more about the plants from horticultural experts and participate in other family activities related to this signature plant. Museum guests are also welcome to take home a piece of Heritage’s rhododendron legacy by purchasing a rhododendron at a special plant sale.   • Sundays, April 28 and May 5, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – The New American Garden

    Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich will host author C.L. Fornari on two successive Sundays, April 28 and May 5, from 2 – 3, for a horticultural workshop entitled The New American Garden.  Advance registration is required, and there will be an additional fee for the class.  For directions and registration information visit www.heritagemuseumandgardens.org.
