Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, November 28 – December 28, 4:30 pm – 8:30 pm – Gardens Aglow

Join Heritage Museums and Gardens, 67 Grove Street in Sandwich, for their annual holiday event, featuring more lights and decorations than ever! New this year: The Holiday Train, a festive model railway display that will travel through the Special Exhibitions Gallery along elevated tracks and over a spectacular bridge made of all-natural materials. Enjoy music and dance performances at 6:30 in the Automobile Gallery. St. Nick will hold court in the Model T. Gingerbread houses created by local companies and students will be on display. Holiday crafts, carousel rides, Hidden Hollow by moonlight, and marshmallow roasting over a fire pit all add up to a great holiday celebration. Tickets are $15 for member adults, $5 for member children, $18 for non-member adults, $7 for non-member children. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the gate the day of the event.

Tickets will stop being sold at 7:30pm each night, but guests already on the property can continue to enjoy the event until 8:30pm. The event is sponsored by The Casual Gourmet, Cape Air, and Rogers & Gray, plus media sponsors Wicked Local Cape Cod and Cape Country 104.


Saturday, April 19 – Monday, September 1 – Wicked Plants, The Exhibit

Heritage Museums & Gardens in East Sandwich is preparing to mount a showcase exhibit.  Visitors will discover the evildoers of the plant world lurking in their own backyards and beyond in Wicked Plants: The Exhibit.  This exhibit is inspired by Amy Stewart’s New York Times bestselling book, Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities, and was created by the North Carolina Arboretum.  It will be on view in the Special Exhibitions Gallery from April 19 to September 1, 2014.  For more information visit www.heritagemuseumsandgardens.org.

Sundays, April 3 and 10, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Garden Adventurers Lectures

On Sundays, April 3 and April 10, come to Heritage Museum & Gardens, 67 Grove Street in Sandwich, and travel to exotic gardens vicariously through the exploits of other Garden Adventurers! On April 3, Jonathan Shaw will share his visits to Japan’s most beautiful and unique gardens, including Kenrokuen Garden (The Six Sublimities, pictured below) in Kanazawa and Saihoji (The Temple Moss Garden). Mr. Shaw was formerly Director of the New England Wildflower Society at the Garden in the Woods near Boston, and is the retired President of Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida. He lives in Sandwich, his native town, where he has an extensive garden in the Village that he and Norwegian wife Eugenie maintain. Then on April 10, Linda Calmes Jones, who chairs Heritage’s Board of Trustees, will share her garden travel experience to London’s Chelsea Flower Show (The Great Spring Show) and various English gardens. Friday, June 4 – Saturday, June 5, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Cape Cod Rhododendron Festival and Garden Tours

A new event on Cape Cod this spring is a two-day Rhododendron Festival on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5, from 10 – 4, co-sponsored by Heritage Museums and Gardens and the Thornton W. Burgess Society.

Private homes in Sandwich, Cotuit and Osterville open their gardens to the public. *(Garden tour locations noted after ticket purchase.)*

The festival also offers a rare rhododendron auction, plant sale, book signings, exhibits and lectures.  The auction, plant sale, and lectures will be held at Heritage Museums and Gardens, Pine Street, Sandwich, Massachusetts.

Tickets at $30 may be used both days and may be purchased at Heritage Museums or at Green Briar Nature Center.

The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc.
