  • Saturday, June 3, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm – Holliston Garden Club 2023 Garden Tour

    Enjoy strolling through eight beautiful local gardens, each distinctive in their horticultural vision and style, on June 3 from 9:30 – 3:30. Tickets may be purchased online in advance for $25, and are available at the Holliston Public Library for $30 on the day of the event.

    The tour will start at the Holliston Public Library’s garden, designed and maintained by Holliston Garden Club members. There you can pick up your tickets in the form of a booklet, with directions and information highlighting our eight gardens. Parking is available on the street and at nearby Town Hall. Your booklet will serve as your ticket at each garden.

    Advance tickets may be picked up at the Holliston Public Library on the day of the event or on the evening before, Friday June 2nd, from 4pm-7pm.

    As you visit each of our gardens, be sure to enter your name in a raffle for a $40 gift card for Fiske’s General Store. Eight $40 gift cards will be given away at the end of the day, one per garden.

    Proceeds from the garden tour will benefit educational, civic, and beautification programs, which includes plantings at the Holliston Library, Holliston Town Hall, Fire Station, Police Station, Memorial Square, and the intersections of Fiske and Central Streets and Norfolk and Franklin Streets.

  • Thursday, January 15, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Honeybees: Imagine a World Without Them

    The Massachusetts Horticultural Society will sponsor a talk on the basics of beekeeping, the impact that honeybees have on our world, and the impact our world has on bees, in the Parkman Room of the Elm Bank Education Building, Washington Street, Wellesley, on Thursday, January 15 beginning at 7 pm.. Tony Lulek will cover everything from a general introduction of bees, the internal workings of the hive, bee biology, hive products, to the struggles of managing bees today caused by environmental factors.

    Come learn about colony collapse disorder and how it affects us as individuals. Tony will talk in depth about the environment and the current state of agriculture, and how we can protect our pollinators. Discover the choices we can make to create a safer, cleaner environment for future generations.

    Tony Lulek has been beekeeping for 10 years and currently has 15 hives. What started as a small hobby has become a large part of his life. His honey business has expanded to include hand-made soaps, lip balms, hand creams, lotions, candy and candles. Beekeeping has given him a deeper understanding of the environment around him. Living in Holliston, Mass, Tony is the President of the Norfolk County Beekeepers Association and the Director of the NCBA Bee School, as well as a past co-president of the Holliston Garden Club. He is also the Chairperson of the Holliston Agricultural Commission, a board member of the Massachusetts Beekeepers Association and a member of the Mass DAR Apiary Advisory Board.

    The Holliston Garden Club is holding its 4th Garden tour on June 1 and 2, 2013.  Saturday hours are 10 – 4, Sunday hours are 12 – 4. The tour will include 6 lovely local gardens.Tickets are $15 and may be ordered through the club’s website: hollistongardenclub.org.

    Wednesday, January 16, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Finding Your Own Style

    Join the Millis Garden Club on Wednesday Jan 16 (snow date January 17) and learn how to create flower arrangements that reflect your own personal style.  Julie Pipe, Central South Director for the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and a member of the Holliston Garden Club, will present the program Finding Your Own Style. Using the color theme of Valentine’s Day she will discuss the mechanics, tools and flower choices required create table center pieces, a buffet table design and something a little different using an unusual container. So whether you already have a green thumb or aspire to have one you are invited to come and hone your skills. The program will begin at 7 pm at the Millis Town Hall, 900 Main Street, Room 130, in Millis, and is free. Call 508-376-6250 if the weather is questionable.
