  • Wednesday, October 7, 6 – 8 pm – Lynden Miller in Boston

    Lynden Miller, well known NYC public garden designer, will speak about designing, maintaining, and funding beautiful, four-season plantings for public places on Wednesday, October 7, from 6 – 8 pm. Her garden projects in NYC have become urban oases with economic benefits and the power to transform the way people behave and feel about their city.

    Lynden Miller’s life-long work is creating beautiful gardens in challenging locations. She has been featured on the Martha Stewart Show and in Fine Gardening, Horticulture, and House Beautiful magazines. Her message about the fundamental necessity of healthy green spaces is critical for today; her new book documents the ‘how to’ of her success.     Lynden will sign her new book, Parks, Plants, and People: Beautifying the Urban Landscape, after her presentation.  The lecture will take place at One Financial Center, overlooking the Boston Greenway, and there will be reduced on-site parking.  The catered event is sponsored by COG Design, advance tickets are $25 (seating limited to 250), and may be ordered on line at www.cogdesign.org.  You will receive a $5 credit towards the advance purchase of Parks, Plants, and People for signing.

  • Wednesday, September 16 – Sunday, September 20 – New England Gardens in Early Fall

    Masses of blue and gold daisies set New England gardens aglow in September.  Flowering grasses, drifts of asters, heleniums, boltonias, Japanese anemones, and sedums contrast with the luxuriant growth of tropicals.  Gardens wake up after the late August lull as the long, golden days of fall begin New England’s best season.  Horticulture Magazine’s  five-day tour, led by Horticulture’s Nan Sinton, will bring you to private gardens known for their fall beauty.  From coastal gems in Little Compton, Rhode Island to secret gardens in Vermont and a chance to learn from the masters when you visit with Wayne Winterrowd and Joe Eck at their remarkable country garden, North Hill, you’ll immerse ourselves in the best of fall in New England.

  • Monday, August 10, 7 pm – Gordon Hayward Garden & Art Talk

    Nationally recognized garden designer, writer, and lecturer Gordon Hayward will be at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine, on Sunday, August 10, for an illustrated talk in which he’ll explore the visual language shared by painters and garden designers. The lecture, ‘Fine Painting as Inspiration for Garden Design,” begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be in the Visitor Center.

    Gordon Hayward’s presentation is based on his new book, Art and the Gardener (Gibbs Smith Publishing, 2008). The illustrated lecture will highlight artists Bonnard, Cezanne, Hassam, Monet and other masters whose paintings can inspire gardeners to virtually copy ideas from their favorite works of art to visually link house to garden.

    Hayward has been writing for Horticulture magazine for 25 years and was a contributing editor at Fine Gardening magazine for six years. He is the author of ten books on garden design. Your House, Your Garden (WW Norton, 2003) won a book award from The American Horticultural Society in 2004. His book, Small Buildings, Small Gardens (Gibbs Smith, 2007) won The Benjamin Franklin Award for the best garden book for 2007 from the Independent Book Publishers Association.
