  • Sunday, December 13, 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Gibson House Museum Holiday Open House

    The Gibson House Museum  invites you to its Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 13, from 1 – 3 pm.

    The Gibson House Museum is the only museum in Back Bay, preserved as it was lived in by three generations of the Gibson family (1859-1954).  Opened as a museum in 1957, the house tells the story of daily life in the Back Bay from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century.  The Museum also displays its collection of Victorian and Edwardian decorative arts. The Gibson House Museum is located at 137 Beacon Street, Boston, MA 02116 (between Arlington and Berkeley Streets.)

    There will be tours on the hour of the house decorated for the holidays as it would have been decorated in the time of the Gibson Family’s residence. Light, seasonal refreshments will be served.  Free.  For more information call 617-267-6338, or email info@thegibsonhouse.org.

  • Sunday, December 6, 12:00 – 4:00 pm – Coastal Holiday House Tour

    The Coastal Holiday House Tour and Boutique will be held this year on Sunday, December 6.  The hours of the Boutique, held at the Barker Tavern, are 10:30 am – 5:00 pm.  The House Tour will take place between 12 – 4 pm.  Tickets are $25, $30 on the day of the tour, and benefit the Scituate Elementary Schools.  You may purchase tickets at the Inn at Scituate harbor, the Barker Tavern, Sylvia’s by the Sea, the Welch Company, Vinette Day Spa, and the Pipeline Salon.  For more information log on to www.coastalholidayhousetour.webs.com.

  • Saturday, October 17, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm – 41st Annual South End House Tour

    The South End Historical Society (SEHS) presents its 41st Annual South End House Tour on Saturday, October 17, from 10 – 5.  This self-guided tour of private homes and public spaces begins at the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, where you pick up your tickets and guidebook.  Tickets are $25 each, and may be purchased on line at www.southendhistoricalsociety.org.  For more information, call 617-536-4445, or email admin@southendhistoricalsociety.org.

    The South End Historical Society  is a group of interested citizens that recognizes the unique architectural and cultural history of the South End of Boston. Through the efforts of the society, the South End has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the largest Victorian brick rowhouse district in the United States.

    During its first thirty years, the SEHS has worked continuously to retain the Victorian integrity of the South End and reintroduce the greater Boston area to the South End with its annual House Tour as well as numerous historical programs and events. The SEHS also encourages research, conservation, and education to protect and promote interest in our local historic buildings, monuments, and sites.

    The South End Historical Society is one of the primary contributors to the preservation of the South End and a supporter of its ongoing revitalization.

  • Sunday, July 26, 11 – 4 – A Festival of Flowers

    The Trustees of the Southwest Harbor Public Library invite you to attend a Garden and House Tour “A Festival of Flowers on Mount Desert Island, Maine” Sunday, July 26, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., rain or shine.  For 20 years the library has been bringing the special pleasure of visiting local private gardens to the public, this year featuring six lovely gardens strung along the shore from Southwest Harbor to Manset, to Bass Harbor and up to West Tremont. .   • Sunday, May 31, 12 – 5 – Newton House Tour

    Eight houses will be open from noon to 5 p.m., including an 1865 Mansard Victorian, four Colonial Revivals built between 1903 and 1925, and a 1920 Arts and Crafts house. The tour, sponsored by the Newton Historical Society, will take place in five historic neighborhoods. Tour tickets, $30 (members, $25), will be available at the Newton History Museum, 527 Washington Street (Jackson Street).
