    The Lily Show on July 21 and 22 at Tower Hill Botanic Garden is presented by the New England Lily Society. Enjoy hundreds of lily flowers at the annual Lily Show. Find new hybrids and maybe discover a favorite variety among those on display. Encounter the wonderful fragrances and delight in the vibrant colors that abound in the genus Lilium. Free with admission to Tower Hill.

    Criteria for Judging Lilies, with Robin Van Liew, Saturday, July 21, 2-3pm. Ever wonder why that flower won first prize? Factors considered by accredited lily judges are explained simply and clearly as we circulate around the show floor, discussing lilies in various classes. Remember, the biggest lily doesn’t always win! Robin Van Liew is President of New England Lily Society and an accredited lily judge since 2013. She grows lilies and other flowers & vegetables on two acres in Holden MA.

    Growing Lilies Without Chemicals, with Jim Daniel, Saturday, July 21, 3-4pm. How can we grow lilies without chemical agents to combat the red lily beetle, fungus and other lily problems? Jim Daniel explains how he grows prize-winning lilies on three acres in Worcester without the use of chemicals. Jim Daniel is an engineer with a passion for growing lilies. He is past president of New England Lily Society, a board member of North America Lily Society and an accredited lily judge.

    Flower Arranging with Lilies, with Robin Van Liew, Sunday, July 22, 12-1pm. Now that I’ve grown these lilies what do I do with them? Robin Van Liew eschews the complicated armature and tricks of flower arranging to demonstrate several types of easy and simple flower arrangements using lilies, greenery, and vines for dramatic effect. Robin Van Liew is a student of Ohara school of ikebana, a form of Japanese flower arranging.

    Enjoy hundreds of lily flowers at the 58th Annual Lily Show presented by the New England Lily Society. The show will include hundreds of flowers and varieties such as Asiatic, Canadense, Longiflorum, Trumpet Lily, hybrid American species, and the giant Orientpets. The event takes place July 22 and 23 at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, and is free with admission to the garden.

    2pm, Lily Classification Presentation with David Chase: Martagons, Asiatics, Orientals & Hybrids (in the theater)

    3pm, Lily Propagation & Scaling Demonstration: Hands-on demo for adults and children with Patty Stewart (in Classroom C)

    1pm, Lily Hybridizing 101 Presentation with Jim Daniel (in the theater)

    3pm, Lily Judging Criteria Presentation with Robin Van Liew (in the exhibit area)

    Enjoy hundreds of lily flowers at the Annual Lily Show, presented by the New England Lily Society [NELS] at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24. Visitors will find new hybrids and may discover a favorite variety among those on display. Guests will encounter the wonderful fragrances and delight in the vibrant colors that abound in the genus Lilium. Some of the many varieties of lilies represented in the show include Asiatic, Canadense, Longiflorum, Trumpet Lily, and hybrid American species, and the giant “Orientpets.” Free with admission to the garden.

    The exhibit of Oriental, Asiatic, Orienpet and other hybrid lily stems will be enhanced by bouquets of flowers featuring lilies in classical and Ikebana styles of flower arranging.

    Saturday, July 23, 2pm : “Judging the Lilies” with Robin Van Liew, New England Lily Society President and certified North American Lily Society Judge.

    July 23, Saturday 3pm: “Sorting Out the Lilies for Classification” with Dr. David Chase, New England Lily Society Classification Chairman and Candidate Judge.

    July 24, Sunday, 12pm: “Hybridizing Lilies” with Jim Daniel, North American Lily Society Director, Certified Lily Judge and Past President of the New England Lily Society.

    July 24, Sunday 2:30pm: “Multiplying your Lilies, Seeds and Scaling”  with Patty Stewart, NELS Past President, Judging Candidate.

  • Saturday, July 13, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Growing Lilies Organically

    The New England Lily Society will sponsor a lecture on Growing Lilies Organically at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, July 13, from 2 – 3.  Jim Daniel will speak, and the lecture is free with admission to Tower Hill ($12 adult, $9 senior, $7 children 6 – 18).  To register, or for more information, visit www.towerhillbg.org.
