As fall approaches, the New England fair season kicks into high gear. From The Big E to The Topsfield Fair to King Richard’s Faire, crowds flock to the fairgrounds for the rides, livestock competitions, giant pumpkins — and, of course, the food. Think stuffed baked potatoes, Thanksgiving sandwiches, corn dogs, fried dough and other iconic favorites.
WBUR is bringing some of the region’s beloved fair food vendors to CitySpace on August 19 to share the stories behind the snacks that inspire long lines and devoted fans. Former WBUR midday host Jack Lepiarz — better known to many as Jacques Ze Whipper and no stranger to fair life — moderates. Guests enjoy apple cider whoopie pies and Craz-E Burgers (smash burgers between two glazed donuts) after the conversation. Panelists:
Jonathan Cunningham — Owner, Joey’s Deli & Market
E.J. Dean — Owner, Fiesta Shows
Gino and Michelle Orlandi — Owners, Poppie’s Concessions
Tickets range from $10 – $30. Register at https://wbur.org/events/
