  • Sunday, May 25, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Natural History Exploration

    Join artist and journalist Will Close for this series of natural history explorations at the Millers River Environmental Center. In this Athol Bird & Nature Club workshop on May 25 you will get a chance to deepen your awareness and connection to the natural world through wildlife tracking and the use of nature journaling and field sketching. You will be guided through various foundational techniques designed to strengthen your observational skills. This workshop will be primarily held in the field. All experience levels are welcome.

    Will Close is an artist, designer, educator, and wildlife tracker who specializes in the intersection of nature, art, design, and teaching. He holds a degree in Fine Art Painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and studied wildlife track and sign under Dan Gardoqui and Daniel Hansche. Currently, Will resides in Concord, Massachusetts where he maintains an artistic studio practice and is an outdoor education instructor with the Carroll School located in Lincoln, Massachusetts. His passion for nature illustration, tracking and sharing it with others, has taken him from the spruce forests of Maine to the Ecuadorian Amazon.   • Saturdays, January 16 and January 23, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Botanical Notebook: Art Journaling in the Limonaia

    On two Saturdays, January 16 and January 23, at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, create a record of your botanical observations in the Limonaia, and learn a valuable new skill to draw upon! Artist/illustrator Helen Byers will explain and demonstrate techniques involved in keeping a botanical journal that’s personal, artful, and informative. You’ll learn what kinds of plant features to record, how to sketch and/or paint what you see, and what kinds of notes to make. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registrants.   • Saturday, April 10, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm – Wow! Botany is Exciting

    Carol Govan is back at the Wellesley College Botanic Garden on Saturday, April 10, with a class beginning at 9:30 a.m.  Do you love plants and want to understand them better? Enjoy early arrival of spring in the WCBG Greenhouses as Carol Govan introduces botany using basic terminology, direct observations and journaling to explore basic plant morphology (seeds, roots, shoots, flowers and fruit). No previous experience is necessary.
