    With the guidance of bestselling cookbook author Cathy Walthers and the stunning photography of Alison Shaw, every home cook can explore the multitude of ways this most healthy of foods can be made into delectable and satisfying meals. From Baked Eggs Over Kale in the morning to kale snacks and appetizers, salads, soups, side dishes and main courses like Pork Braised with Kale and Cider for dinner, Kale, Glorious Kale will be your complete guide to the greatest of green vegetables.

    Catherine Walthers is an award-winning journalist and food writer. She has worked for the past 15 years as a private chef and cooking instructor in the Boston area and on Martha’s Vineyard. She is food editor of Martha’s Vineyard Magazine, and the author of Raising the Salad Bar, as well as co-author of Greens, Glorious Greens.

It makes a tasty addition to soups and smoothies; you can sauté it, eat it as a side dish or salad, or roast it for a snack. If you love this popular leafy green or think you might if you knew how to cook it, this Stonewall Kitchen cooking class taught by author Cathy Walthers is for you. Her book Soups + Sides is pictured below. It will take place Saturday, September 27 from 11:30 – 1 and the fee is $45.  Register by calling 1-877-899-8363 from 8 – 5, Monday through Friday.   • Saturday, February 9, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Cooking with Kale

    The Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, in partnership with the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, presents the Talk and Tasting event series, designed to explore the health benefits of different seasonal vegetables and show how these vegetables can easily be prepared at home.

    Cooking with Kale on Saturday, February 9, from 2 – 3:30,  will feature a lecture on the health benefits of kale, a cooking demonstration with chef Rolando Robledo from Clover Food Lab, gardening tips given by Master Gardener Betty Sanders, a free tasting, and a chance to win a prize. All events in the series are open to the public and free of charge.

    Kale is rich in fiber and powerful antioxidants, which makes it a must-have for every healthy diet; however, cooking with it can be a challenge. At Cooking with Kale, Sue Schochet, the owner of Healthy Habits Kitchen in Wellesley, you’ll learn how to prepare this super food in a variety of tasty ways for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The class will be held at Elm Bank on Wednesday, September 19, from 6 – 8.
