    This June, the Arnold Arboretum brings a new production of Jane Austen’s Regency period romance, Pride and Prejudice, to the Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden.This adaptation by playwright, Kate Hamill will be staged by Actors’ Shakespeare Project (ASP), the award winning theater company who brought the site-specific Fog xMacbeth to the Arboretum last fall. Join us for Austen’s seminal look at love, Hamill’s comic and energetic adaptation, and Actors’ Shakespeare Projects’ wonderful cast of characters, as they make the Arnold Arboretum’s fabulous Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden their very own stage. Also note, no umbrellas will be allowed. Leventritt Garden opens to audience at 1pm. Performance begins at 5:00 pm on June 23, raindate June 24.

    Confused about how to prune your hydrangeas to maximize flowering and increase health? You are not alone! Join Jen Kettell on March 23 at 10 am at the Arnold Arboretum for a lively discussion on the species behind the hot trade names (Hydrangea ‘Pistachio’ reblooming shown below) and how to prune them. In addition, Jen will focus on how to match appropriate plants to your site conditions. She’ll suggest which species are drought-tolerant or benefit pollinators and other essential growing tips. Jen will focus on hydrangeas that are hardy in Zones 5-7. Class includes an indoor lecture and walk to a demonstration in the Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden.     Is your garden and yard as beautiful and beneficial as possible? Are you interested in adding some pizazz for pollinators as well as for yourself? If so, then join this creative walk through the Leventritt Shrub and Vine garden at the Arnold Arboretum with horticulturist Jen Kettell on Wednesday, September 27 from 4 – 6 to consider different combinations of plants that will provide forage for bees, snacks for wildlife and humans, nesting habitat, and seasonal allure. Jen will show how to extend the appeal and bounty of your garden across the seasons by carefully selecting and combining trees, shrubs, and vines. Fee $25 Arboretum member; $30 nonmember.     Whether twining, clinging, or scrambling, vines know how to get around. Take a walk with Nancy Rose, editor of Arnoldia magazine, through the Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden at the Arnold Arboretum on Thursday, September 13, from 1 – 2:30 in the afternoon, to learn more about how vines grow and climb. See vines with the best ornamental features, as well as those that provide tasty fruit. You’ll also learn about a few vines that you won’t want to plant!. Below is Parthenocissus tricuspidata ‘Fenway Park’ discovered by the Arnold Arboretum’s  Dr. Peter Del Tredici at – wait for it – Fenway Park.
