    Spend Thursday evening, November 13, from 7 – 8:30 pm, and learn the basics of floral arrangements to decorate your home. Learn to use what you have, how to buy sensibly and how to get the greatest impact for your effort! Watch as Marisa McCoy demonstrates how to make traditional and modern designs appropriate for the fall season. Learn the mechanics of arrangements, rules that help, and myths that hinder. Find your confidence in arranging to make your own autumn arrangements, just in time for a Thanksgiving centerpiece.

    Marisa McCoy is a nationally accredited Master Flower Show Judge, a Senior Associate at the Museum of Fine Arts, and frequent exhibitor in Art in Bloom and the New England Spring Flower Show. Marisa enthusiastically shares her knowledge at Mass Hort’s Floral Design Course and at other botanical centers. This Massachusetts Horticultural Society evening will be held in the Parkman Room in the Education Building at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley. $10 for Mass Hort members, $15 for nonmembers.     Saturday, December 7, 10:00 am – Holiday Wreath Workshop

    As part of Elm Bank’s Festival of Trees Celebration, Mass Hort is offering this hands-on workshop on Saturday, December 7, beginning at 10 am, to create beautiful wreaths and swags to take home for the holiday season. Marisa McCoy will lead participants in design, choice of materials, and wreath composition. Through her vast depth of experience and under her gentle guidance you will create a wreath that appeals to your own design and color sense and one which you will be proud to display for the world to see.

    Marisa is a Nationally Accredited Master Flower Show Judge, and the current President Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts. Marisa is also a floral design instructor, garden club speaker, active member of the MFA Senior Associates, and a custom wedding and special occasion floral designer. All materials will be provided. $45 for Mass Hort members, $55 for nonmembers. To register or for more information: www.masshort.org.     1:00 p.m. Designs with On Thai, AIFD, owner of Surroundings Floral Studio in Schenectady, New York.  Mr. Thai has been a member of AIFD since 1990 and is has won numerous awards in local, regional and national competitions. He won Best of Show in the International Flower Show two years running, and took first place in Teleflora’s People’s Choice Award, and seven times Best of Show in the Northeast Floral Exposition. He has made many garden club demonstrations for the Federated Garden Clubs of the States of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Massachusetts; and has been a lecturer/demonstrator for the Northeast Floral Expo held in Connecticut and for the Garden Club of Seattle, Washington. A few years back, Mr. Thai presented a floral design program in the United Kingdom before The Club in the Park, a prominent and innovative garden club in the north of England. While there, he instructed a class in the art of contemporary floral design. He has kept busy on such assignments as creating floral arrangements for the annual Whitney Ball during the racing season in Saratoga, N.Y. as well as the New York State Thoroughbred Gala at the Saratoga Golf and Polo club, the annual National Museum of Racing Ball and the Betters Ball at the Saratoga Track.

    The Wellesley Society of Artists have been spending their summer around the property gaining inspiration for their own work. The Hunnewell Carriage house will feature an exhibit of their works as well as many that are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to support Mass Hort.

Come join us in the Crockett Garden for a cake and ice cream celebration to commemorate the 15 years the Massachusetts Horticultural Society has taken residence at Elm Bank. A welcome from DCR representatives, Mass Hort President and more.

Join Mass Hort and Marisa McCoy in creating a Fall Basket centerpiece on our 15th Anniversary Day of Celebration. Hands on workshops are one of our most popular education events and as we celebrate what we do at Elm Bank we are offering this opportunity to create a floral design. Marisa’s depth of experience and gentle direction help to provide the perfect atmosphere for beginner to expert to release the creative juices and take home a design to be proud of. Participants will have their choice of fresh and dried materials including seed pods, seed heads, and berries, as well as flowers and foliage chosen from a bright fall color palette.

    11:00-12:00: Extending Your Growing Season – Lecture.

    2:00-4:00: Succulent Container Workshop with Art Scarpa – Hands on workshops are one of our most popular education events and as we celebrate what we do at Elm Bank we are offering this opportunity to plant a succulent dish garden with guidance from Art Scarpa. Participants will plant a twelve inch Italian terra cotta container with South African winter growing succulents. Workshop fee includes plants, soil, container, top-dressing, and hand selected decorative stones.

    Known for his expertise in growing succulents and for his love for unusual plants, Art is certified as a judge by the Cactus and Succulent Society of America and has competed and judged at numerous major shows, including Boston, Newport and Philadelphia and many regional cactus and succulent shows.Program fee and registration required. $40.00 MEMBERS, $45 NON MEMBERS.     Marisa McCoy, award-winning floral and landscape designer and nationally accredited flower-show judge, will present ideas for updating traditional floral decorating at home. Her Andover Garden Club program on Tuesday, December 4, beginning at 10 am in the South Church Fellowship Hall, 41 Central Street in Andover, will include colors for tables, mantels, doorways, stairs, and gift packages.
