    Join The Massachusetts Horticultural Association on Thursday, April 28 at 7 pm for an evening learning how to beautifully landscape our yards to support our native bees! Tom Sullivan, founder of Pollinators Welcome, will share years of experience and get you on your way to creating an edible homescape that is both beautiful and purposeful.   • Saturday, May 7, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Daylily and Perennial Transplanting

    Carl Harmon, of New Hampshire’s Harmon Hill Farm (pictured below), will lead a presentation on the diverse world of daylily culture on Saturday, May 7 at 10 am at The Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley.

    Following a brief, indoor introduction, join him in the Daylily Display Garden to get your hands dirty as you learn how to divide these and other perennials.   • Thursday, May 5, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Seed of Renewal: Indigenous Agricultural and Culinary Revitalization in the Far Northeast

    Join The Massachusetts Horticultural Society on Thursday, May 5 at 7 pm at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley, as ethnobotanist Dr. Fred Wiseman shares his experiences tracking down the seeds of the agricultural and culinary history of the Wabanaki tribe from Northern New England. Dr. Wiseman has worked with indigenous communities for years to restore tribal food systems and increase food and seed sovereignty by reintroducing ancient crops, agricultural practices and cuisine.   • Tuesday, April 26, 10:00 am – Herb, Knot, and Cottage Gardens

    Growing herbs is a right of passage for most gardeners. Many already know how to grow and harvest these essential plants for our kitchens and homes. In this April 26 lecture in the Putnam Building at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street in Wellesley, Kelly Orzel of Bowery Beach Farm will discuss various herb garden designs ranging from traditional plans to more unique and specialized arrangements, including knot gardens. Planting suggestions and instructions on how to achieve these geometric patterns will be explained.

    Then we’ll talk about how to grow and use a few of her favorite rare and uncommon herbs including lovage, salad burnet and pelargoniums. And finally we’ll examine various styles, plants and design tips for a cottage garden that integrates herbs.

    Celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 23 with the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.

    Get a jump on the season by starting your own plants from seeds – less expensive than buying transplants, starting your own also gives you a much broader selection of interesting varieties to try!

    Master Gardener Gretel Anspach will discuss seed choices, start times, and growing methods, including windowsill and grow-light gardening.     Permaculture is the design of food systems and social structures to provide for human needs while restoring ecosystem health. In this Massachusetts Horticultural Society Introduction to Permaculture Design presentation, we will explore edible ecosystem gardens, unusual edible perennial plants, sustainable water management and soil rehabilitation. Learn the first steps in creating a regenerative landscape design plan utilizing permaculture design principles.
