  • Massachusetts Biodiversity Conservation Goals for 2050

In 2023, Governor Maura Healey issued Executive Order No. 618, which called for Massachusetts to set nation-leading biodiversity conservation goals, including for coastal and marine environments, for 2030, 2040, and 2050. To meet this charge, the Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game, alongside many partners, developed this ambitious 25-year plan to rebuild biodiversity and invest in nature to sustain our health and well-being, food security, economy, and way of life.

Massachusetts is home to an extraordinary abundance and variety of life. This is biodiversity—all the species, habitats, and complex interactions that make up the astonishing web of life. It isn’t just found in distant, wild places—it’s all around us, even right in our backyards. Biodiversity is the foundation for life—it anchors our history, heritage, and culture, supports our health and well-being, food security and economy, and enriches our lives. It is also key climate solution—nature protects our communities from extreme weather, drought, floods, and heat. • Natural Resource Nitrogen Sensitive Area Grant Awards

Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll announced $825,000 in grants to @townofbarnstable, @townofbrewsterma, @townofchatham, #DennisMA, #Falmouth, #Mashpee, #Wellfleet and @yarmouthmass to protect and improve water quality. Nitrogen can cause serious problems in the water, such as algae blooms, and this funding will help eight Cape Cod communities address nitrogen pollution. At a time where Federal aid to environmentally damaged areas is disappearing, the State is stepping up.

  • Thursday, October 8, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Clean Water Action Virtual Fall Celebration with Attorney General Maura Healy

Thursday, October 8, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Clean Water Action Virtual Fall Celebration with Attorney General Maura Healy

Clean Water Action is thrilled to announce the keynote speaker for its virtual 26th Annual Fall Benefit – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Since day one, Attorney General Maura Healey has made supporting clean and renewable energy and controlling ratepayer costs a top priority for her office. AG Healey has been a leader in fighting the federal government’s attempts to rollback critical environmental protections. In response to a recently announced policy from the federal government that suspends its enforcement of environmental protection laws during the COVID-19 pandemic, AG Healey reaffirmed her commitment to protecting public health and our natural resources. She has been a leader on public health and environmental justice. In May, she released a report on the environmental factors that compounded the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 in communities of color. This report helped raise awareness of links between the high rates of COVID-19 and pollution, and called for strong state and federal action to protect environmental justice communities. Her work has helped frame the environmental justice policy that passed the Massachusetts House unanimously in July – providing a concrete step to address the pandemic and advance justice broadly for these communities.  It is an honor to welcome Attorney General Maura Healey to our celebration!Purchase tickets and sponsorships and get more information about the event at www.cleanwater.org/MAFall2020. Tickets start at $50, but pay what you can.
