  • Thursday, December 5, 6:00 pm – Boston Common Holiday Tree Lighting, followed at 8:15 pm by Lighting of Commonwealth Avenue Mall

    Thursday, December 5, 6:00 pm is the date and time of the lighting of the Boston Common. This exciting event takes place near the Visitors Information Center on Tremont St and stars the special tree sent as a gift from Nova Scotia. Mayor Michelle Wu will be joined by Santa and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Refreshments, music, and entertainment will be provided by local groups. Lights on the tree – almost 7,000 of them – go on at about 7:55 pm, followed by lights on 80+ other trees throughout the Common and the Public Garden. This is the 53rd year of the event.

    At 8:15, on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, thousands of twinkling white lights transform this tree-filled parkway into a sparkling forest.

  • Wednesday, June 13, 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm – 22nd Annual Rose Garden Party

    Please join Honorary Chairs Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Ms. Lorrie Higgins on Wednesday, June 13 at 5:30 pm in the Kelleher Rose Garden, Back Bay Fens, 73 Park Drive in Boston. Proceeds will benefit free family-friendly programs and events in Boston Parks. Enjoy passed hors d’oeuvre, a buffet, and more, plus live entertainment with a spirited, creative hat contest in a garden party setting, live and silent auction, and en plein air painting demonstration

    At this time of the year, 3,000 rose bushes are at peak bloom at The Kelleher Rose Garden in the Back Bay Fens. Garden Party attire is enthusiastically encouraged!

  • Monday, November 27, 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Candy Cane Tea, and 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Copley Square Tree Lighting Festivities

    The Friends of Copley Square and Mayor Martin J. Walsh invite your family to the annual Copley Square Tree Lighting Festivities on Monday, November 27 from 5 – 6, featuring NESN’s Jenny Johnson.  Celebrate the holiday season with a visit from Santa, musical performances with Boston Children’s Chorus, Boston Pops Brass Quintet, Britani Washington of Berklee College of Music, Sam Robbins, and appearances by Rudolph and Frosty.     The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) and Honorary Co-Chair Mayor Martin J.   • Thursday, March 12, 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm – A Spin in the Park

    The Friends of the Public Garden is delighted to be partnering with the Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC) on an event that will kick-off their 40th anniversary year. Mayor Martin J. Walsh recently announced a series of free events scheduled throughout 2015 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BLC. Titled BLC XL, this anniversary series will feature four seasonal programs celebrating Boston’s historic places and the progress made during the past four decades to protect and enhance the city’s unique identity.

    On March 12, 2015, please join us at the winter BLC XL program, “A Spin in the Park,” a free guided tour of the Boston Common. On this early-evening ramble, the Friends will present the colorful history of the Common, a designated Boston Landmark since 1977, and their ongoing efforts to restore and maintain it. BLC staff will reveal how the Common’s significant fences, statuary and fountains help define one of the city’s foundational places. This spin through the park will then take to the ice with skating at the Frog Pond, where rental skates will be made available to registered attendees at no cost along with a complimentary hot chocolate.   • Tuesday, December 2, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Copley Square Tree Lighting and Holiday Festivities

    Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and The Friends of Copley Square will celebrate the holidays with the annual Copley Square Tree Lighting on Tuesday, December 2, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

    The free event will feature appearances by Mayor Walsh, WHDH-TV’s Janet Wu, Santa Claus, and Rudolph along with live entertainment including members of the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble, the Trinity Church Choristers, vocalist Sheree Dunwell, and a holiday sing-along.

    The Old South Church bell will toll when the tree is illuminated. Light refreshments will be provided by local businesses and the Fairmont Copley Plaza will host a family reception immediately following for all in attendance.

    The reception will include cookie decorating, photos with Santa and treats from Georgetown Cupcake, Pain d’Avignon, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

    In addition, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Copley Square will become a spot for family revelry with jugglers, stilt walkers, and festive music provided by Magic 106.7, Boston’s holiday music station.

    Even more festivities will take place in and around Copley Square on December 2. The Boston Public Library and The Catered Affair will host a Storytime and Candy Cane Tea at The Fairmont Copley Plaza from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The tea is free but reservations are required by calling (617) 859-2282.
