    Michael Dosmann, Curator of Living Collections at the Arnold Arboretum and past Garden Club of the Back Bay speaker, will lead a walk through the Arboretum on Sunday, September 30, from 2 – 3:30. The Arboretum is committed to growing a diverse and comprehensive collection of plants. In particular, they are growing six important genera for the North American Plant Collections Consortium, a group of public gardens working to conserve plants with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the American Public Gardens Association. Learn more about the six genera that make up our “national collections,” the importance of preserving biodiversity, and current research using these plants.   • One on One with Great American Gardeners Online Auction

    In conjunction with the American Horticultural Society’s 17th Annual Gala, taking place this year on Saturday, September 25 from 6 – 10 pm at River Farm in Alexandria, Virginia, the AHS is proud to announce its second annual online auction, “One on One with Great American Gardeners.” This is your chance to bid on an opportunity for you and three friends to spend time as exclusive guests of a prominent American horticulturist, botanic garden director, or landscape designer.  One such local experience will be hosted by Michael Dosmann at the Arnold Arboretum here in Boston.   • Wednesday, June 16, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm – Korean Plants of the Arnold Arboretum

    The Arboretum’s strong connection to China may be well known, but did you know that numerous trees and shrubs in the Arboretum’s collection hail from the Korean Peninsula?  A Korean maple is pictured below.

    Michael Dosmann has botanized through Korea on Arboretum-sponsored expeditions. Take a stroll through the Arboretum landscape to hear his stories about some of these fascinating plants on Wednesday, June 16, beginning at 5:30 pm.     Michael Dosmann, Curator of Living Collections, Arnold Arboretum, will speak on Saturday, Oct 31 , 1:00–2:30pm, at the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain.
    As the weather changes and leaves drop, focus your attention on bark, an often-overlooked ornamental feature of woody plants. The Curator of Living Collections is mad for bark!     Spend an afternoon at the Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain with Michael Dosmann, curator of living collections, as he discusses the natural history of many of the Arboretum’s notorious nut species.  Mr. Dosmann was a popular speaker at a Garden Club of the Back Bay meeting a few seasons ago, and you will enjoy this walking tour with him.  Dress comfortably with good walking shoes.
