    Calling all local artists! Have you wanted to deepen your relationship with Mount Auburn? Do you have a creative practice as a visual or performing artist? Are you inspired by the themes of horticulture, wildlife, ecology, history, death, and people stories? Then apply to be a 2025 Artist-in-Residence! Image below by Bill Denzer.

    Each year, a diverse group of chosen artists are charged with creating an original, site-specific work based on an in-depth experience at the Cemetery that conveys a fresh and innovative perspective of Mount Auburn.

    Award amount: $500 – $4,000
    Accepting Applications: November 1, 2024 – January 31, 2025
    Notification date: March 1, 2025
    Residency: April 1, 2025 – March 31, 2026

    SOLSTICE: Reflections on Winter Light is an annual event at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt. Auburn Street in Cambridge, that includes an outdoor journey with large-scale light and sound artworks created by MASARY, and an indoor experience with live music and candle lighting. Guests are invited to walk through the light-filled landscape, explore the Winter Solstice atmosphere, and to reflect on moments of change as the year ends and a new cycle begins. Connect to a landscape of exceptional beauty, consider an intention for the new year, or commemorate the memory of a loved one. Let SOLSTICE light your way as you encounter the unique spirit of Mount Auburn. Dates are December 7, 8, 10. 11. 13. 15, 17, 18, 20 and 21.   • Tuesday, October 29, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – Laurel Circle Lecture Series: Horticulture and Climate Change

    For the final 2024 installment of Mt. Auburn Cemetery’s Laurel Circle Lecture Series, Vice President of Horticulture & Landscape Ronnit Bendavid-Val will provide an in-depth look at the current effects of the changing climate on our landscape and what to anticipate in the future. Among a host of relevant topics, Ronnit’s discussion will focus on ways that horticulturalists can adapt to changes in the environment.

  • Sunday, November 13, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Nature Sketching Workshop with Clare Walker Leslie

    Want to learn some very basic ways for drawing the nature you know and love here in Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge? Join illustrator Clare Walker Leslie in a Sunday afternoon session on November 13. Appropriate for ages 10 and up, teens and adults. No previous drawing experience needed. Bring a drawing pad, several pencils and an eraser. There will be materials provided, as well. Workshop takes place indoors. Meet in Story Chapel, masks required. Registration required HERE. $7 for Friends of Mount Auburn, $12 for nonmembers.
