    The rose family (Rosaceae) is a large and diverse plant group that contains much more than just roses. On Thursday, July 14, beginning at 5:30 pm, take a walk through the Bradley Rosaceous Collection with Arnoldia editor Nancy Rose and learn about some familiar and not-so-familiar members of the rose family.   • Wednesday, March 20, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Early Spring Bloomers

  • Thursday, September 13, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm – Very Fine Vines

    Whether twining, clinging, or scrambling, vines know how to get around. Take a walk with Nancy Rose, editor of Arnoldia magazine, through the Leventritt Shrub and Vine Garden at the Arnold Arboretum on Thursday, September 13, from 1 – 2:30 in the afternoon, to learn more about how vines grow and climb. See vines with the best ornamental features, as well as those that provide tasty fruit. You’ll also learn about a few vines that you won’t want to plant!.   • Thursday, July 19, 5:30 pm – Locust, Legumes, and Nitrogen Fixation

    Meet horticulturist and Arnoldia Editor Nancy Rose in the locust collection (west of Meadow Road and north of the ponds) to learn about Robinia pseudoacacia, a member of the pea family, at the Arnold Arboretum on Thursday, July 19 at 5:30 pm.  The nearest gates are the Arborway or Forest Hills Gates, with parking along the Arborway, or the Centre Street Gate, where parking is limited.  Part of Tree Mob!     Conifers are a diverse group of plants, but they have one thing in common: cones. On this Thursday, May 17 walking tour of the Arboretum’s conifer collection with Arnoldia editor Nancy Rose, we’ll take a close-up look at these surprisingly beautiful, seed-bearing structures. We’ll also discuss the landscape attributes of the conifers we visit, plus some easy identification tips.     Maples are a great group of plants when it comes to brilliant fall color in shades from gold to orange to fiery red. The Arnold Arboretum is a treasure trove of maples, from common North American species to rare and endangered Asian types. On this walking tour with Nancy Rose, editor of Arnoldia, on Thursday, October 20 from 1 – 2:30, we’ll look at a number of the Arboretum’s special maple accessions in all of their autumn glory.In case of inclement weather, contact 617.384.5209.   • Sunday, February 13, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm – The Multifaceted Edible Landscape

    Think creatively about your next garden: perhaps and eggplant or two next to a maroon-leafed Weigela?  Or some blueberries among your azaleas?  Horticulturist Nancy Rose will tempt you with creative ideas for multipurpose plantings that satisfy your aesthetic sense as well as your palate.  Topics covered will include site selection, growing and maintenance considerations, pest control, and lots of information on plant selection.  The program takes place at the Arnold Arboretum, 125 Arborway, Boston, on Saturday, February 13 from 1 – 2:30 pm.  Cost to attend is $15 for Arboretum members, $18 for nonmembers, and you may sign up by calling 617-384-5277, or emailing adulted@arnarb.harvard.edu.  ‘Pink Lemonade’ blueberries pictured below.
