  • Sunday, October 11, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Rustic Furniture Design

    Craftsman Frank Hamm believes that anyone can build beautiful and functional furniture using just green tree limbs and saplings. Under his expert guidance, learn how to construct a terrific garden gate, trellis or side table in this half-day, hands-on workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Sunday, October 11, beginning at 1 pm. You will learn how to use straight, curved and forked branches for design and structural integrity. Create harmonious, sculptural forms by carefully coordinating the complex shapes of individual wood cuttings. Take home a terrific addition to your garden, home or yard.   • Friday, October 9 – Sunday, October 11 – Warner Fall Foliage Festival

    The 62nd Annual Warner Fall Foliage Festival opens at 6 pm on Friday, October 9, continuing through 6 pm Sunday, October 11.  The Festival is Warner’s invitation to share the natural splendor of New Hampshire’s vibrant autumn colors while enjoying food, entertainment, arts and crafts along the main streets of Warner, located 18 miles northwest of Concord, exit 9 off Route 89.  The Festival is organized and operated by hundreds of local volunteers.  All money raised is spent on community projects.

    The Program includes open class corn competitions, The Moose Exhibit “Forever Locked – The Battling Bull Moose of Fowlertown,” arts and crafts farmer’s market, pie eating contests, music, parades, and the Granite State Cloggers.  For directions and more information, log on to www.wfff.org.

  • Saturday, October 10 – Sunday, October 11, 10 am – 4 pm – Annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration

    Join The A.D. Makepeace Company and the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ Association for the 6th Annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration, Saturday and Sunday, October 10 – 11, 2009, at A.D. Makepeace Company Headquarters at Tihonet Village, 158 Tihonet Road in Wareham.  10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, admission $2.00, age 6 and under free. Free event parking.

    This fun family event features juried crafters, activities for children, cooking demonstrations, pony and wagon rides, and much more. The highlight of the day is a guided tour of a working cranberry bog. Please, no pets.

    Cranberry Harvest Festival Birds Eye View of Corralling Fruit

  • Through October 11, 8:30 – 4 pm – Botanical Architecture Exhibit

    Students in Smith College’�s Introduction to Architecture: Language and Craft studio, taught by Jim Middlebrook, were asked to reinterpret the spatial language of flowers. Each student chose a flower from the Botanic Garden, then photographed it and analyzed its spatial character. Students built models according to this visual �language.� These forms were used to design a theoretical pavilion for flower display next to Paradise Pond. On display are the photos, models, and pavilion designs. Come to the Smith College Lyman Plant House, Church Exhibition Gallery, 15 College Lane, Northampton, Massachusetts now through October 11 to see the fabulous work created by these very talented students.   • Through October 11, 2009, 9 – 2 – Chappaquiddick Natural History Tour

    Enjoy a 2 ½ hour oversand vehicle exploration across Chappaquiddick’s barrier beach, sponsored by the Trustees of Reservations. Your guided tour includes an exploration of the rare maritime forests that inhabit the farthest reaches of the island. You’ll also stop at the Cape Poge Lighthouse to learn its history, climb the spiral staircase, and witness breathtaking views of Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod and Nantucket.  Relax and enjoy the birding, beachcombing, and photographic moments this journey has to offer, as you discover the fascinating natural history of Cape Cod.  For more information, log on to www.thetrustees.org.
