  • Saturday, October 17, 10:00 am – Eden’s Gems: A Walk in the Village Orchard

    Garden Thyme programs are held on the third Saturday of each month and are FREE for members of Old Sturbridge Village. Led by Village horticultural and agricultural staff, these programs and workshops are held at various sites and deal with a variety of plant-related themes and topics. Participants gather at the Visitor Center at 10 a.m. each month and are led to the appropriate site or setting.  On October 17, enjoy Eden’s Gems: A Walk in the Village Orchard, with Christie Higginbottom. Did you ever wonder why 1800s cooks and cider makers had over 800 apple varieties to choose from and we only have a dozen or so? Meet the Village’s historic fruits — the Mothers, the Spitzenburgs, the Russets, the Baldwins and the Sheepsnose apples. Learn about seedlings, scions and rootstocks.   • Saturday, September 26 – Sunday, September 27, 9:30 – 5 pm – Agricultural Exhibition

    Experience an old-fashioned agricultural exhibition complete with demonstrations of early New England farm equipment and displays in the Center Meetinghouse of Old Sturbridge Village.  Displays will include Village-grown heirloom vegetables and agricultural accomplishments.  Plan now to join the exhibition of Visitor-grown heirloom vegetables.  For more information log on to www.osv.org.

  • Through December 31, 2009 – Taking Root: The Growing Business of Gardening in Pots in the 1800’s

    Now on display in the Visitor Center at the entrance to Old Sturbridge Village, this exhibit entitled Taking Root: The Growing Business of Gardening in Pots in the 1800’s,  invites exploration of the art and business of gardening in flowerpots in 19th-century New England. The thriving world of gardening in pots in early New England is shown through a series of vibrant and colorful vignettes. The depictions range from the rough industriousness of a potter’s shop to the refined elegance of a Victorian parlor, and to all of the worlds in between.   • Sundays, June 14, 21 and 28, 10:00 a.m. – Sunday Morning in the Garden

    Each Sunday morning in June the experts at Old Sturbridge Village will conduct a meeting on the grounds of this treasured site.  On June 14, meet in the Herb Garden to hear about The Dangers of Herbs.  On June 21, Fashion in Flowers will be discussed at the garden near the Towne House.  June 28 brings Garden Pests and Problems at the Freeman Farmhouse kitchen garden. These programs are free with admission to Old Sturbridge Village.  Old Sturbridge Village is a “must-see” destination to experience early New England life from 1790-1840. One of the country’s largest living history museums, OSV has a large staff of historians in costume, 59 historic buildings on 200 acres, three authentic water-powered mills and two covered bridges.
