    In this April 21 Hollister House Garden presentation, beginning at 9:30 am, you will hear many compelling reasons why you should consider a natural approach to lawn care. The presenter, Chip Osborne, is a professional horticulturalist with over forty-five years in the green industry. He is the founder of Osborne Organics, a company providing natural turf consulting services. Chip will offer a detailed and systematic approach to natural lawn care, including basic soil biology and testing, proper use of organic products and sound cultural practices. These steps will be outlined and explained in a common sense way. This talk is suitable for the homeowner as well as for landscape professionals.   • Thursday, April 7 and Saturday, April 9 – NOFA Statewide Organic Lawn Days

    Join a NOFA Accredited Organic Land Care Professional at one of 12 locations across the state to learn about how you can take care of your own lawn or property organically. These three-hour intensive workshops will cover site analysis, transitioning from conventional to organic management, compost, amendments, mowing and watering practices you can implement to have a beautiful, low-cost, synthetic chemical-free lawn. Hands-on component and handouts included. Workshops to be held in Monterey, Northampton, Amherst, Boylston, Salem, Newburyport, Natick, Barnstable, Dartmouth, Arlington, Stoneham and Ayer.   • Friday, August 7 – Sunday, August 9 – Northeast Organic Farming Association 35th Annual Summer Conference

    The 35th Annual Northeast Organic Farming Association Summer Conference will take place Friday through Sunday, August 7-9, at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst campus. Choose from150 workshops on organic farming, gardening, land care, sustainability and homesteading.   Teen and children’s programs will also be available. A sampling of workshop titles include Organic Lawn & Turf Course, Community Farm Workshop Track, and Mass. Grass Grazing School.  The Keynote speakers are Paul Stamets, mushroom expert and author of Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World, and Will Allen, founder and CEO of Growing Power, an organization that brings knowledge about sustainable food systems to urban areas.  Entertainment will include dancing, a country fair, a barter event, and a farmer’s market.  Dorm rooms may be reserved, camping spots will be available, and wholesome organic meals will be served.
