  • Saturday, October 3, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Autumn Colors Photography Workshop

    Join photographer Eduardo del Solar on October 3 at the Boston Nature Center in Mattapan to expand your compositional ability centered on fall color photography. Equipment recommendations for digital cameras, lenses, and accessories will be offered. We’ll discuss exposure, lighting, composition techniques, image critiques, and the ethics of nature photography. The class is from 1 – 4.

    Participants must have either a digital point-and-shoot or digital SLR camera. Cell phone cameras will not suffice.

    Mass Audubon Members $20, Nonmembers $25.

    PLEASE NOTE: This program will be conducted in accordance with current Municipal, State, and Mass Audubon Covid-19 protocols. Groups are limited to 11 pre-registered adults. Participants are required to wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines. Mass Audubon cannot loan field equipment at this time. A detailed confirmation letter will be emailed 24 hours before the program.

  • Saturday, May 12, 8:00 am – 11:30 am – Nature Photography Workshop

    Improve your photographs of nature in this half-day Arnold Arboretum workshop–a talk followed by hands-on experience. The class with freelance photographer Erik Gehring takes place at the Arnold Arboretum at one of the most beautiful times of year. Learn about composition, color, light, depth of field and focus.   • Sunday, May 6, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm – The Art of Garden Photography with Rich Pomerantz

    Learn the basics of garden photography with this Massachusetts Horticultural Society hands-on photography workshop on Sunday, May 6 at Elm Bank, from 8 – 4, that will teach you how to effectively use ‘magic light’ and apply the rule of thirds when composing your images. Plan to spend most of the day shooting, with a designated period to download imagery and review your work. Garden Club of the Back Bay speaker Rich Pomerantz’s critique is one of the most popular parts of the workshop!

    Bring your camera, charged battery, storage cards, lenses, and enthusiasm.  The cost of this workshop is $95 for members and $125 for non-members. There is also an option for a $10 lunch.   • Saturday, March 3, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Beginning Photoshop Elements for Aspiring Photographers

    This Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop led by Steve McGrath on Saturday, March 3 from 10 – 3 will help participants learn Photoshop techniques and skills, and apply them immediately to their personal photography. Using classroom lecture and interactive student participation, the course will cover optimizing images using layers, tools, color balance, and black and white. Extensive handouts will lead students step-by-step so that skills can be practiced at home. We use Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for our instructional labs in class.   • Sunday, January 8, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Photography Workshop and Scavenger Hunt

    The Boston Parks Department and Art Commission are presenting free winter photography workshops December-February. The next event will take place Sunday, January 8, from 10 – 12 at Christopher Columbus Park.

    Participants in the scavenger hunt will be asked to search for unique features in specific Boston Parks based on clues. The clues for the scavenger hunt will be emailed and posted on www.facebook.com/bostonparksdepartment and www.twitter.com/bostonparksdept.     Do you want to spend a day photographing gardens?  Spend a day with garden photographer and past Garden Club of the Back Bay presenter Rich Pomerantz photographing the classic English gardens at Hollister House and the inspiring gardens of White Flower Farm in Litchfield County, Connecticut.  This workshop, May 19 – 20, includes an evening of instruction as well as a full day of photography, and is designed for all levels of photography experience.  The fee of $165 includes transportation between gardens and lunch.  Lodging is available at local inns and is offered to workshop participants at discounted rates.   • Saturday, April 2, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm – Creative Flower Photography

    Unfulfilled by your flower photographs? Discover your artistic side in this Saturday, April 2 one-day, hands-on workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts with fine-art photographer Joel Shore of MetWest Gallery. Learn how lighting and composition improves your photos, experiment with iridescent glass and reflections, explore how to get closer to your subject, and discover why seeing less lets you see so much more. Do you have flower photos you love, or ones that disappointed? Bring them in!

    A digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera and tripod are required. A macro lens is strongly recommended. A cable or wireless shutter release is preferred, but your camera’s self-timer will suffice. Point-and-shoot cameras are not recommended unless they allow you to set both the shutter speed and aperture manually. We plan to have a variety of Lensbaby lenses in Canon and Nikon mounts available.

    This is an all-day ( 9:30 – 4:30) workshop. For lunch, we recommend Tower Hill Botanic Garden’s own Twigs Café. Alternatively, you can bring your own lunch. The closest fast-food establishment is in Clinton, a 14-mile round-trip drive. Workshop price is $80 for THBG members, $90 for non-members.
