  • Friday, October 30, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Halloween Date Night at Bradley

    Get a jump on Halloween with a date night at the Bradley Estate in Canton, Massachusetts, on October 30 at 6 pm.

    Come enjoy the Bradley’s lush grounds. Bring a picnic or pre-order dinner through us at registration. If a picnic blanket is not your speed, reserve a table and even flowers (additional fees apply). Feeling behind in your Halloween planning? Join us for pumpkin carving. BYOP (bring your own pumpkin) or we’ll sell you one to carve and decorate. Feeling judgemental? Together we’ll award insignificant prizes for any number of jack-o-lantern categories.

    Not happy with your creative efforts? We’ll have pumpkin destroying options available as well.to close out the evening. It’s been a tough year, maybe you just need to smash a pumpkin to let it all out.

    Pricing ($20 for Trustees members, $25 for nonmembers) is per person, space is limited. Costumes are encouraged!

    The Friends of Hayes Park invite you to A Picnic in the Park, with live music with Wayne Potash and his Music Fun Band, on Wednesday, July 25 (raindate Thursday, July 26), from 6 – 9 at Hayes Park, on the corner of West Canton Street and Warren Avenue.  Picnic will take place from 6 – 7:30.  Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided.  Please bring dishes to share.  Image from www.tasteofhome.com.

  • Sunday, January 2, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm – Spectacle Island Seafarer’s Island Holiday

    The Friends of the Boston Harbor Islands will sponsor its first boat cruise of 2011 on Sunday, January 2, from 11 – 3.  Explore Spectacle on your own or take a tour with a FBHI volunteer.  Pack a picnic.  There will be access to the indoor Visitor Center, and a book and merchandise sales table for the consumer among you.  Depart from UMass Boston Fox Point Pavilion.  Parking there is $6, or take a frequent shuttle bus from JFK/UMass on the Red Line.  Cost of the excursion is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and FBHI members, $20 for children 3 – 12 and students with ID, $17 FBHI members’ children.  You may register online ($2 surcharge) at www.fbhi.org.  Photo by Sina.

    The Friends of Hayes Park invite you to A Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, July 28 (rain date Thursday, July 29), from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, at 166 West Canton Street on the corner of West Canton Street and Warren Avenue in the South End.  The picnic itself will run from 6 – 7:30, with hot dogs and hamburgers provided.  Please bring dishes to share.  Then, enjoy live entertainment with Wayne Potash and his Music Fun Band.  For more information log on to www.hayespark.org.  Feel free to bring a blanket or an elegant setting, like the one pictured below.

  • Thursday, June 24, 6 – 9 pm – NABB’s Second-Ever Barbecue (NABB-Q)

    Join the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay on Thursday, June 24, for the NABB-Q at the Clarendon Street Playground beginning at 6 pm.  It’s a rare opportunity to enjoy a summer picnic in the Back Bay, including hamburgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill, picnic salads, snacks and soft drinks.  Tickets can be purchased at $15 for adults, $5 for children.  Kids 3 and under are free.  Many thanks to the primary sponsor and new neighbor on Newbury Street KitchenWares by Blackstone’s, for its generous support to make the event possible.  For more information, log on to www.nabbonline.com.

  • Tuesday, June 8, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Annual Rose Garden Picnic

    The Fenway Civic Association hosts a picnic at the Kelleher Rose Garden, Back Bay Fens, from 6 – 8 pm on Tuesday, June 8.  There will be entertainment, with live music from The Whiskey Boys, a folk and bluegrass duo, plus dessert and beverages.  You bring your own picnic, naturally.  The event is free.  For more information, log on to www.fenwaycivic.org.

  • Sunday, May 9, 10 am – 4 pm – Lilac Sunday

    Of the thousands of flowering plants in the Arnold Arboretum, only one, the lilac, is singled out each year for a daylong celebration. Gather at the Arboretum to picnic (allowed on this special day only!), watch dance performances, tour the lilac collection, and more. Event takes place rain or shine.
