  • Thursday, October 8, 6:30 – 8:00 pm – Snapshot of Galapagos

    The Galapagos Islands have always attracted the imagination of potential visitors for its landscapes, fauna and high number of endemic species.  A booming tourism industry coupled with a resident population explosion from mainland Ecuador has forced the World Conservation Union to include Galapagos in the World Heritage in Danger List.  In his recent trip to these islands (another tourist?), Eduardo del Solar spent considerable time with Galagueno educators interested in conservation and reform.  For this Thursday, October 8 presentation at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center, 500 Walk Hill Street in Mattapan, beginning at 6 pm, he will use his photographs and the website he created to talk about issues that face this incredible site.  For more information, log on to www.massaudubon.org.

  • Tuesday, September 15, 7:00 – 9:00 pm – Brewer Plaza Presentation

    The Friends of the Public Garden, in conjunction with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, invite you to a presentation on a proposal for the renovation of the Brewer Plaza on Boston Common.  The meeting will take place Tuesday, September 15, from 7 – 9 pm, at Suffolk University, 120 Tremont St., 4th Floor.  See and hear about plans to renovate the Plaza, making a greener, more inviting gateway into the Common and a destination within the park with a restored Brewer Fountain as its centerpiece.  For questions, call the Friends of the Public Garden office at 617-723-8144.

  • Saturday, September 12 – “Native Plants” at The Mall at Chestnut Hill

    The final installment of The Mall at Chestnut Hill’s 2009 Organic Garden Series will take place Saturday, September 12 with “Native Plants.”  Hear a presentation on winterizing gardens, and best of all, there will be a tomato tasting and a lecture on how to preserve food (canning, freezing, fermenting) with results from June’s seedlings.  Also, there will be an opportunity to purchase from a vegetable and fruit stand.  For more information, log on to www.simon.com and click @Your Mall Now!, or call 617-965-3037.
