  • Saturday, December 5 – Sunday, December 6 – New Bedford Preservation Society 18th Annual Holiday House Tour

    The 18th Annual New Bedford Preservation Society Annual Holiday House Tour will take place on Saturday, December 5, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm (Candlelight Tour) and on Sunday, December 6, from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Afternoon Tour).

    Come visit beautifully restored historic 19th Century homes, all decked out for the holidays. Read About Last Year’s Tour!

    Start at the Wamsutta Club, 427 County Street, New Bedford.
    Pre-tour brunch ($15) on Sunday from 11:30am-1pm(reservations recommended, call 508.997.7431)
    Holiday Raffle will be held at the club during tour hours. Advance tickets: $19; $17 Society Members
    At the door, ALL tickets: $23

  • Wednesday, October 7, 11 am – Ocean Drive Revisited: A Re-Evaluation of its National Importance

    Join the Preservation Society of Newport County on Wednesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island for a lecture by Mack Woodward, Senior Architectural Historian of the Rhode Island  Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission.

    Ocean Drive is one of the most significant picturesque landscapes in America.  Recent research has revealed just how important this historic place is in our nation’s landscape history.  This lecture will focus on the layout of the Drive itself, the masterful development of the entire district in the late 19th century, its comparison with similar picturesque sites, and how critics of the time responded to the planning of the area.

    Admission free to Preservation Society members, general admission $5.  Advance registration requested.

  • Saturday, September 19, 10 – 5 – Fall Family Festival at Green Animals

    Travel down to Green Animals Topiary Garden on Saturday, September 19, from 10 – 5,  for a day of scarecrow building, kids’ crafts, storytelling, local produce, artisan fair, and live music.  The third annual Fall Family Festival takes place at 380 Cory’s Lane in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.  Cindy Killavey will enthrall children from 2 – 3 pm.  $12 for adults, $4.50 for children 6 – 17.  Preservation Society members and all children under 6 enter free.  For additional information and directions, log on to www.newportmansions.org.
