  • Friday, October 2, 5 – 8 pm – The 2009 Great Glass Pumpkin Preview Party

    Visit the Kresge Oval on Friday evening to preview the complete installation of 1,000 handblown glass pumpkins, created by artists from the MIT Glass Lab. Pumpkin sales are Saturday, October 3 only, from 10 am to 3 pm, with a rain date on Sunday, October 4. Up-to-date rain date information will be posted on http://web.mit/glasslab/sales_pumpkin.html.

    Proceeds from this event benefit The MIT Glass Lab, where the MIT community can learn and practice the art of glassblowing.

    The Great Glass Pumpkin Patch came to MIT in 2001 after a residency in the Glass Lab by 14 members of the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI). The Bay Area Glass Institute (a non-profit corporation located in San Jose, CA), was founded in 1995 by San Jose State graduate Bobby Bowes and MIT alumnus Mike Binnard.

    Every week or so, beginning, intermediate, and advanced students work together for a few hours in teams of six or seven to produce pumpkins for the sale. Production for the October event continues steadily throughout the year in order to achieve their goal of 1000-1200 pumpkins.

  • Saturday, September 25, 3 – 6 pm, and Sunday, September 26, 8 am – noon – MCD Fall Bulb and Perennial Sale

    Come to the 4H Fairgrounds, 51 South Chelmsford Road, Westford, for the Middlesex Conservation District Fall Bulb and Perennial Sale – tulips, daffodils, unusual bulbs, iris, perennials and garden supplies (compost bins, bulb fertilizer, kitchen scrap buckets, etc). All items may be ordered in advance through September 4 to ensure best selection. To place an order, visit the MCD website at www.middlesexconservation.org and download an order form, or call 978 692 9395 and obtain a brochure by mail.   • Sunday, October 4, 3 – 6 pm – Fall Fashion Show

    The Garden Club of the Back Bay is an institutional member of The College Club of Boston, and we are pleased to announce that the Club will hold A Fall Fashion Event featuring OKW of the South End (presenting women’s fashions) and Drinkwater’s of Cambridge presenting gentlemen’s fashions on Sunday, October 4, from 3 pm to 6 pm . There will also be a live auction including fashion items, fine jewelry and art work. Chef Jesse will be creating a fresh elegant tea menu for the occasion.  Proceeds will benefit the Building Fund.   • Monday, August 31, 3 pm – One Long Table

    On Monday, August 31, come to a fabulous collaboration between Bay End Farm in Buzzards Bay and The Blue Room in Cambridge.  Know your roots!  Go back to the “farm to table” movement – the Bay End Farm is putting one long table back in the middle of the farm.  Join them amidst the beautiful farm of organic vegetables.  You will be sitting anywhere from just a few feet to a few miles from where your dinner will be sourced and only yards from where it will be prepared.  The hosts will be setting up the table out in the field and under the sun on a gorgeous late afternoon to feast on what the earth has offered. A farm tour begins at 3 pm, and the four course menu paired with organic wines dinner begins at 4.  Cost is $75 per person ($65 if a Bay End Farm CSA member), and please note this is a bring your own plate event.  The Blue Room chef Jorge Lopes will present his best work, and all proceeds from the dinner will facilitate Bay End Farm’s efforts to build their farm stand kitchen.

  • Friday, August 21 – Sunday, August 23 – 25th Annual Wilbraham Peach Festival

    Wilbraham’s Twenty-fifth Annual Peach Festival, August 21, 22, & 23, 2009, will be held at Fountain Park, Tinkham Road in Wilbraham. Come join friends and neighbors and enjoy the country fair atmosphere of Wilbraham’s biggest event!

    There is a full schedule of activities for both adults and children along with plenty of food and exhibits. The main stage and children’s tent will feature a variety of local and regional talent, and FlippenOut Productions will make a return appearance on Sunday. And with peach sundaes, peach bread, peach shakes, and of course, Mr. Peach, we’re sure you will have a peach of a time!

  • Friday – Saturday, July 10 and 11, 10 – 4 – Seaside Gardens Tour

    The Rockport Garden Club presents Seaside Gardens, a tour of fifteen private Rockport seaside gardens, on Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ten stops provide access, and each garden offers unique plantings and styles.  Most of the gardens are on the waterfront along Rockport’s spectacular coastline, while others feature ocean views.  Perennials, refreshments, and original art will be offered for sale at designated tour sites.  All proceeds will be used to maintain Rockport’s town gardens and to fund civic projects and scholarships.  This is a rain or shine event.  Admission is $25 in advance (call 978-546-2250 or 978-546-7871).  Tickets may be purchased at Toadhall Bookstore, 51 Main Street, Rockport.  For further information,  you may email Elaine Hassler at e.hassler@comcast.net, or log on to www.rockportgardenclub.org.

  • Thursday, July 9, 10 – 4 – Enchanted Garden Tour of New Seabury

    Join Heritage Museums discovering the enchanted private sanctuaries of New Seabury and Popponesset Island on Thursday, July 9th, 2009 from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine). All proceeds benefit the many wonderful programs and activities at Heritage Museums & Gardens. Make the day even more special with a luncheon at the New Seabury Club.  The extraordinary vistas from the main dining room are the perfect complement to your garden tour experience!

    The gardens are located throughout the New Seabury & Popponesset Island area and all can be reached by car. Parking is available near and around all the homes on the tour. Be prepared to walk from parking areas to each of the gardens.

    There will not be any shuttle services provided. This is a garden tour and walking is involved. Please be prepared with comfortable walking shoes—and dress for the weather !

    A Garden Boutique will be on display and for sale in the main lobby at New Seabury Country Club, featuring stunning floral jewelry and exclusive gifts for the garden and home, inspired by the horticultural collections of Heritage Museums & Gardens.
