    On Saturday, December 8, from 1 – 4 at Nasami Farm in Whately, learn to propagate native plants from seed in the first session of this two-part, hands-on workshop that focuses on practical methods for small-scale propagation. This workshop is appropriate for beginners and propagators with some experience. Take one or both classes. Part 1 explores seed biology, overcoming dormancy, and sowing techniques. $40 for New England Wild Flower Society and Northeast Organic Farmers Association members, $48 for nonmembers.   • Thursday, July 11, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Collecting Woody Plants

    Longing for that special hydrangea? Learn how to propagate easy-to-grow shrubs and trees in a hands on workshop at Berkshire Botanical Garden on Thursday, July 11, from 10 – noon. This workshop led by Elisabeth Cary will cover how to collect, prepare and propagate shrubs and trees from softwood cuttings. Set at a great time of the year, participants will take cuttings, make a simple propagator and learn techniques to insure successful rooting. Easily propagated shrub varieties, cultivation requirements, timing and care will be the focus of this program.   • Saturday, June 26, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon – Propagating Trees and Shrubs from Cuttings

    Cuttings, one of Polly Hill’s favorite ways for sharing superior plants, produce plants genetically identical to the parent. Come to the Polly Hill Arboretum, 809 State Road, West Tisbury, on Saturday, June 26, beginning at 9 am, and join Jack Alexander, longtime Arnold Arboretum propagator, to learn how to propagate woody plants from softwood cuttings. After an introductory lecture, participants will collect cuttings from the Arboretum grounds, and then return to the greenhouse to learn techniques. You will leave with a small box of cuttings. Please bring a pair of hand pruners; a sharp knife and apron would also be a welcome accessory. Please pre-register; space is limited to 12.
