  • Saturday, February 11, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Branching Out: The Art of Quilting Opening Reception

    Fabric art for Pamela Goody became a freeing experience when she discovered she could create her own designs. Like singing, for which Goody is classically trained, her art evolved as a way to express her individuality. Goody quilts with a painterly eye, preparing a canvas of fabric, using materials with a variety of scale, texture, color, and design. Often, she paints, sponges, or stamps her own fabric, translating nature through the medium of fabric. She gravitates toward trees, plants, and flowers, as they, like music, have a lyrical, sometimes whimsical quality. Hand quilting allows her to experience the tactile feel of fabric in her hands.

    With a degree in Music Education from UMass Lowell, and a professional singer, Goody has also been passionate about sewing throughout her life. Currently a member of quilting organizations, her work has been in many juried shows, produced for commissions, and is held in private collections.

    The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University will exhibit Branching Out: The Art of Quilting in the Hunnewell Building of the Arboretum February 10 – May 7, and an opening reception with the artist will take place Saturday, February 11 from 1 – 3 (snow date Saturday, March 4 from 1 – 3). Reception music will be provided by Bruce Goody, flute, and Jonathan Moretz, guitar. There will also be an artist gallery talk on Saturday, April 1 from 1 – 3.  Free and open to the public.

  • Friday, November 25 – Sunday, November 27 – 22nd Annual Original Castleberry Faire

    A New England Tradition continues and the crafters are back in a big way for the 22nd Annual Castleberry Faire Arts & Craft Festival, taking place at the Shriner’s Auditorium, 99 Fordham Road in Wilmington, MA Thanksgiving Day weekend, November 25, 26 & 27. This three day shopping bonanza includes over 250 of the nation’s finest craftspeople and artisans. This is the big one, folks, with over 250 juried exhibitors from throughout the United States displaying and selling their American made works including pottery, scarves, tapestry, fine jewelry, candles, turned wood, quilts, basketry, photography, painted antiques, metal sculpture, doll clothes, ceramics, soap, wall hangings, puppets, hair accessories, hats, primitives and folk art, stone relief, carved birds, soft sculpture, Victorian wreaths, leather, oil paintings, calligraphy, silk & dried floral arrangements, fleece, watercolors, country wood crafts, slate, ornaments, porcelain dolls, cameos, music boxes, quilt-pillows, aromatherapy, snowmen, fragrance, stained glass, lampshades, old maps, sport plaques, miniatures, intarsia, chimes, wearable art, blown glass and so much more. A “food sampling” extravaganza will be presented with such gourmet delights as: herbal dips, sauces, jams & jellies, candies, peanut brittle, fudge, vinegars, finishing sauces, pastry, cooking oils, salsas, chutney, jerky, baked goods and so much more.

    The Castleberry Faire runs Friday, November 25 from 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday, November 26 and Sunday November 27 from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission $8.00 Adult, under age 14 free.   • Friday, August 12, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Art in the Garden “Paintings of Fabric” Artist’s Reception

  • Saturday, September 25 – Sunday, September 26, 10 – 5 – 12th Annual Hancock Shaker Village Country Fair

    The Country Fair at Hancock Shaker Village on Saturday and Sunday, September 25 – 26 from 10 – 5 celebrates the bounty of the harvest with agricultural demonstrations, wagon rides, a fabulous Farmers Market, and huge tents full of the work of the best local and regional crafters and artisans. Come out to the farm and see all the Country Fair has to offer. At the Country Fair, vendors fill the Village with delightful fresh produce, finished farm products, and crafts of all sorts. The Farmers Market tents boast vegetables, flowers, maple sugar treats and hand-made cheeses. Artisans have furniture, Shaker style oval boxes, original paintings, candles and hand-woven textiles available for purchase. Plan plenty of browsing time for this amazing marketplace! Don’t miss the Food Tent with area restaurants and brews! Try your hand as a Shaker Baker in our Country Fair Pie Contest – in 2009, thirteen pies were entered, and this year’s judges include New Yorker writer Susan Orlean, Berkshire Living editor Lesley Ann Beck, Berkshire Eagle executive editor Tim Farkas, and RuralIntelligence.com co-founder Marilyn Bethany.  A display of quilts in the Round Stone Barn ell has become an integral part of the Country Fair each year.  Over 60 antique and newly made quilts are displayed in this juried show, fine examples of craftsmanship and tradition.
