    Join Arnold Arboretum docent Rhoda Kubrick on Saturday, April 30 at 1 pm for this tour of the Arboretum’s large maple collection and adjacent Bradley Rosaceous Collection (rose garden). The tour combines a discussion of plant families and origins with the enjoyment of springtime — new leaves and flowers. If time permits, you will climb Beech Path to Explorers Garden and see another wonderful paperbark maple. In case of inclement weather, contact 617.384.5209. Free. Meet at the Hunnewell Building.

    Enjoy the crisp fall air at the Arnold Arboretum as we round the corner to winter! This November 21, from 1 – 2:30, explore the less-traveled paths of the Arboretum on a brisk walk designed for getting fit. Pause to hear about interesting plants while you catch your breath.     The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University presents Bonsai at The Arnold Arboretum with Rhoda Kubrick, Arboretum Docent, on Saturday, October 19, from 2 – 3 pm. The Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection turns one hundred this year. Discover the art of bonsai and the history of the Arnold Arboretum’s bonsai collection, which includes a core of seven, large compact hinoki cypresses (Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Chabo-hiba’)–each between 150 and 275 years old–as well as younger plants. Get a close-up look at these remarkable trees and gain a better understanding of bonsai maintenance. This activity is free.     Whether “naked” or “clothed,” seeds can swim, fly, hitchhike, and even dance! With Arnold Arboretum volunteer Rhoda Kubrick, discover the many adaptations to help seeds move. Learn the variety and ingenuity that enable plants, rooted in one spot, to create offspring in new locations. Meet Tuesday, October 26 at the Hunnewell Building at the Arnold Arboretum at 1 pm. Free. No registration required.
