    Docent Robbie Apfel leads this February 16 winter walk in an exploration of the Arnold Arboretum’s conifer collection. Beginning from the Bussey Street Gate at 1:30, you will be introduced to the Arboretum’s grand gymnosperms, learn the botany of conifers, and hear about Hemlock Hill’s evolving ecosystem. This tour will also introduce you to native and non-native conifers in the winter landscape. In case of inclement weather, please call 617 384-5209.

    The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University presents Bonsai Matching with Arboretum Docent Robbie Apfel on Sunday, October 20 from 2 – 3:30 pm at the Hunnewell Building of the Arboretum. Most of the species seen as bonsai in the Arboretum’s Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection can also be found in the landscape. Explore the history and culture of bonsai and the Arboretum’s relationship with these plants, and compare bonsai with their “unrestricted” counterparts in the landscape.  This activity is free. Most of the species seen as bonsai in the Arnold Arboretum’s world-renowned Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection can also be seen in the Arboretum landscape, but they look very different! Explore the history and culture of bonsai and the Arboretum’s long relationship with these fascinating plants. Compare and contrast bonsai with their “unrestricted” counterparts in the landscape. Meet instructor Robbie Apfel, Docent, at the Bonsai House, adjacent to the Dana Greenhouse at 1050 Centre Street.  Free.
