  • Wednesday, July 14, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Sandwich Garden Tour

    Visit lovely Sandwich homes at your leisure on Wednesday, July 14, from 11 – 3.  Light refreshments will be served at Green Briar Nature Center, 6 Discovery Hill Road in East Sandwich. This event is a benefit for The Thornton W. Burgess Society.

    The Thornton W. Burgess Society is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1976 to carry on the pioneering conservation work of author/naturalist Thornton W. Burgess (1874 – 1965). Mr. Burgess, who was born and grew up in Sandwich, Massachusetts, went on to achieve national and international recognition for his childrens stories that teach lessons of conservation and love of wildlife.

    Over 170 books and 15,000 stories by Burgess chronicle the tales of Peter Rabbit and his animal friends, including Jimmy Skunk, Grandfather Frog, Johnny Chuck, Sammy Jay, Reddy Fox, Hooty Owl and many others. Through these engaging stories, generations of young people have learned about the natural world and have developed an understanding of the importance of conservation of our natural resources.

    The Thornton W. Burgess Society operates three facilities. The Thornton W. Burgess Museum on the shores of Shawme Pond on Water Street (Rte 130) in Sandwich village and the Green Briar Nature Center, the Jam Kitchen at 6 Discovery Hill Road (off Rte. 6A) in East Sandwich and the East Sandwich Game Farm.

  • Friday – Sunday, November 27-29, December 4-6, and December 11-13, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Holidays at Heritage

    Holidays at Heritage will be a multi-day community celebration for the holidays during Heritage Museum’s 40th anniversary.  The Heritage Museum and Gardens is located at 67 Grove Street, Sandwich, Massachusetts.

    Visitors are invited to stroll the lighted paths, explore the Hart Family Maze and several lighting vignettes created by the area’s premiere landscape companies. A grove of Christmas Trees decorated by community organizations will adorn the Parade Field. The J. K. Lilly III Automobile Museum and the Art Museum will be decorated with elegant indoor holiday displays. Once again Santa will visit from the North Pole for photo opportunities with him in the Model T.The antique carousel will be adorned for the season and offer a ride into holidays past.

    The museum store will be open with special gifts for everyone on your list. Additional activities such as “drop-in” crafts and community musical performances make this a holiday celebration not to be missed!

    Admission is $6 for all adults, $5 for adult members of Heritage Museums & Gardens, $2 for children ages 4-12 and children 3 and under free. A $1 discount off above admissions will be offered to groups of 20 or more.

    A portion of the proceeds from this event will provide an opportunity for less fortunate members of the community to attend this festive event as our guests. Bring a canned or dry good item for a neighbor in need. All food contributions will be donated to the Sandwich Food Pantry. Join us for this community-wide holiday celebration!

  • Saturday, September 26, 1 – 3 pm – Behind the Scenes at the Chelsea Flower Show

    Spend an inspiring afternoon at the Heritage Art Museum in Sandwich, Massachusetts, with Paul Miskovsky, an award winning landscape designer/horticulturist from Falmouth, MA.  In 2007, Miskovsky had the opportunity to work at the world’s most prestigious horticultural event, The Chelsea Flower Show, in London England for The Blooms Of Bressingham as a volunteer.   • Tuesday, July 14, 8 – 9:30 a.m. (and subsequent Tuesdays in July & August) – Yoga in the Garden

    Enjoy the sounds, colors and fragrances of the Heritage Museums gardens in Sandwich, Massachusetts, while you close your eyes, stretch your muscles and inhale deeply. Catherine Paulson will guide you through the practice of hatha yoga. Classes are suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners and are held in various locations throughout Heritage’s 100 acres of award-winning botanical gardens.  In the event of rain, the class will be held on the outdoor concert stage.  $15 per person, drop in registration.
