    ‘Seasoned’ orchid growers and new orchid enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the Massachusetts Orchid Society’s Annual Show and Sales,  Trident’s Treasures: In Memory of Dr. Wilford B.   • Friday, June 25 – Sunday, June 27 – Safari Flora & Fauna

    The 2010 Newport Flower Show will take place at Rosecliff from Friday, June 25 through Sunday, June 27.  Tickets may be purchased at www.newportmansions.org.  The Opening Night Cocktail Party will take place from 6 – 9 pm on Friday, although the show itself opens at 10:30 am that morning, closing at 5 pm to ready itself for the benefit gala.  Hours on Saturday and Sunday are 9 am – 5 pm.  Bartlett Tree Experts are the Presenting Sponsor.  All proceeds from the Newport Flower Show are dedicated to the ongoing restoration and maintenance of The Preservation Society of Newport County’s 88 acres of gardens and landscapes.

  • Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and May 23, 10 – 5 – Bonsai Weekend

    Come to Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts on Saturday or Sunday, May 22 and 23, from 10 – 5, and enjoy Bonsai Weekend, The Art of the Potted Plant.  The exhibit will be in the Stoddard Education and Visitors Center, and is sponsored by The New England Bonsai Society.  Gorgeous displays of specimen bonsai plants, with guided tours, lectures, and programs on bonsai culture will be part of the celebration.  Discover the world of bonsai – the art of growing trees in miniature.  Have you bought or received a bonsai and it died? Come out and learn how to keep your bonsai alive and thriving.  If you can raise a houseplant, you can grow a bonsai.   • December 4 – December 6 – Plymouth Holiday House Tour

    The newly reopened Pilgrim Hall Museum is sponsoring a Holiday House Tour of some of Plymouth’s most beautiful homes, decorated for the holidays.  The preview party will be held Friday, December 4, from 6 – 8 pm,  and the Tour will take place Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6.

    Your visit may range from graceful private residences at The Pinehills to the historic homes of Leyden Street, all dressed up for the holidays.  Feel the warmth of the holiday spirit while you help preserve the museum’s superb collection of extraordinary 17th century artifacts and support its educational programs.  Your ticket includes a light lunch at Plymouth Country Club. Exact locations of houses on the tour are kept confidential until the day of the tour.  You MUST pick up the booklet and map that will serve as your ticket (and which reveal the locations of the houses) AT PILGRIM HALL MUSEUM (75 Court Street, Plymouth, MA) between 9:30 and 4:30 on either Saturday, December 5 or Sunday, December 6.  (The houses themselves will NOT open before 10:00 am).  Tickets will NOT be sold at the houses or at Plymouth Country Club.  Lunch at Plymouth Country Club is included with the ticket.  Lunch will be served between 11:00 and 2:00 each day (ticket holders are entitled to ONE lunch).

    Space is limited, so purchase your tickets early!  A discount is also available with advance purchases.     The ticket price for the Preview Party and the Tour will be $40.  Tickets are nonrefundable.

    Pilgrim Hall Museum, America’s oldest museum,  located at 75 Court Street in Plymouth, has recently completed a major expansion & renovation project, adding air-conditioning and a new entry.   The “new” museum also features an imaginative reinstallation of the  permanent exhibitions of 17th century Pilgrim artifacts.

    Celebrate the Pilgrims’ legacy in the restored grandeur of the Main Hall and then encounter the actual artifacts used and owned by the 17th century Plymouth Colonists, in a new and dramatic installation.     Strawbery Banke in nearby Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is a beautiful place to be in the winter.   • Friday, December 4, 5:00 – 7:30 pm – Holiday Marketplace Cocktail Party

    The Berkshire Botanical Garden will host a Holiday Marketplace Preview Cocktail Party on Friday, December 4, from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.  This is your chance to do some early buying of handcrafted wreaths, holiday decorations, seasonal blooms and greens, herb products, crafts and gift items.  The Holiday Marketplace itself begins Saturday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 6, from 10:00 am – 5 pm.  This event is part of Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas celebration.  Admission on Saturday and Sunday is free, but there will be a charge for the Cocktail Party.  Call 413-298-3926 for details and reservations.

    Join The A.D. Makepeace Company and the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers’ Association for the 6th Annual Cranberry Harvest Celebration, Saturday and Sunday, October 10 – 11, 2009, at A.D. Makepeace Company Headquarters at Tihonet Village, 158 Tihonet Road in Wareham.  10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, admission $2.00, age 6 and under free. Free event parking.

  • Saturday, September 19 – Sunday, September 20, noon to 4 pm – Fifth Annual Fairy House Tour

    Sponsored by the Friends of the South End (Portsmouth, New Hampshire), this self-guided walking tour on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20, features whimsical fairy houses built by families, children, garden clubs and local artisans. The tour will include Strawbery Banke, Prescott Park, the Governor John Langdon House and the Wentworth Gardner and Tobias Lear Houses. Excerpts from “Fairy Houses – The Ballet” will also be presented. Visitors are invited to build an entire Fairy House Village on Peirce Island using only natural materials.   • Saturday and Sunday, July 18 – 19 – Pittsfield Garden Tour

    If you are in the Berkshires, plan to attend the Pittsfield Garden Tour on Saturday, July 18 (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) or on Sunday, July 19 (noon – 4:00 p.m.).  This is a self guided tour of seven gorgeous private gardens designed and maintained by the homeowners, as opposed to professionally designed and maintained premises.  Plus, there will be an inspirational garden dedicated to the memory of AIDS victims.  Tickets ($15 for adults, free for children 12 and under) are available at 480 West Street in Pittsfield.

    Also, on Saturday, there will be a silent auction of hand decorated and embellished birdhouses.  The auction ends at 5:30 p.m. and no ticket is necessary to participate in the silent auction.  The birdhouses can be seen, and bids placed, at the Garden Tour Headquarters, 480 West Street, Pittsfield.  For further information, contact Anne W.
