  • Tuesday, May 3, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – 3-D: Digging Deep for Dignity

    We don’t make a habit of publicizing benefits which don’t have a specific horticultural tie-in, but today we’re making an exception for a treasured neighbor.  On Tuesday, May 3, from 6 – 9, there will be an event to benefit the Women’s Lunch Place Capital Campaign.  Entitled 3-D: Digging Deep for Dignity, the Latin themed party will take place in the Mandarin Oriental Ballroom, 776 Boylston Street, and will feature Latin festive fare and entertainment, plus a live and silent auction.  Tickets are $150 per person, valet parking is available, and casual chic attire is recommended.  For tickets and information, log on to www.womenslunchplace.org, or call 617-267-1722.

     

     

  • Friday, November 5, 6:30 – 9:30 pm – 2010 Urban Barn Dance & Harvest Supper

    The Federation of Mass Farmers Markets will hold its 2010 Annual Urban Barn Dance & Harvest Festival on Friday, November 5, from 6:30 – 9:30 pm at the Dante Alighieri Italian Cultural Center, 41 Hampshire St., Cambridge (Kendall Square).  Proceeds of the evening will benefit FMFM, and tickets cost $50. Guests will toast the hard work of their favorite farmers with a hearty locally grown supper, and then continue the celebration with live music and dancing. Music will be provided again this year by Sean Smith and Friends, and contra caller David Titus returns to lead us in dances that new and experienced dancers will enjoy. . Chef Bob Sargent of flora restaurant is once again generously donating his time to create mouth-watering pork dishes as well as hearty sides to accompany them. There should be plenty of food for hungry vegetarians as well! Guests will also enjoy a silent auction with prizes donated by local businesses.     Join  the Friends of Christopher Columbus Park on Friday, November 13,  from 7 pm – 11 pm,  at the Boston Marriott Long Wharf, 296 State Street, Boston, for a wonderful 6th annual Gala to raise money to support the Christopher Columbus Park.  There will be a cocktail hour, dinner, dancing, & a silent auction.  The ticket price is $150, and you may reserve by emailing info@foccp.org, or logging on to www.foccp.org/Gala.html.

    The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park (FOCCP) is a non-profit organization made up of North End and Waterfront neighbors whose purpose is to further the restoration, protection, preservation, care, enhancement, improvement, and maintenance of the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park.  The FOCCP work closely with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department to keep the park clean and well maintained.
    This all-volunteer neighborhood group provides funding for the Annual Trellis Lights, maintains the Rose Kennedy Rose Garden, and purchases new trees and plants for the Park.

  • Sunday, November 1, 7:00 – 9:00 pm – Boston Night to Combat Climate Change

    Boston’s premier 2009 fundraising event showcasing New England’s leaders in the fight against global climate change will take place Sunday, November 1, from 7 – 9 pm. All proceeds from the event will go to organizations working to combat global climate change, including Oxfam America and National Resources Defense Council.

    Hosted by Worthy Causes, Inc. at the Cambridge Royal Sonesta, the Boston Night to Combat Climate Change event will feature big name speakers, networking opportunities, a silent auction, dancing, entertainment, and fine food and drink.

    The carbon footprint of the event will be measured and offset, and those in attendance will receive an event package containing earth-friendly products and information on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

    The event will focus on raising awareness among the estimated 250-500 guests, while also celebrating the efforts of innovators working to protect the environment and combat climate change and its impact on poor people.

    Fruitlands Museum presents an entertaining night of bidding for both live and silent auction items in support of their upcoming exhibit “For the Birds,” a collaboration with the Massachusetts Audubon Society.  Enjoy live music and fine dining, along with the best view in town.  6:00 – 7:30 – Silent Auction and hors d’oeuvres, 7:30 – 8:30  Gourmet Stations featuring diverse seasonal fare, and 8:30 – 10 pm Live Auction and Dessert.  Tickets $75 each.  Tickets may be purchased on line at www.fruitlands.org.  Please purchase tickets by Friday, September 18.

  • Thursday, October 1, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Say It With Flowers

    Please join the ALS Association on Thursday, October 1st for the Fifth Annual Boston Say It With Flowers, hosted by Red Sox wives Ashley Papelbon and Kelli Pedroia.  This year the event is being held at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental, located on Boylston Street in Boston.  Enjoy a wonderful floral arranging class, luncheon, cocktail reception, and live and silent auction. Fox 25’s Kim Carrigan will once again be serving as the Mistress of Ceremonies! Guests will check in from 9 – 10 a.m., the floral arranging class will take place from 10 – 11:30, and the wine reception and silent auction will be held from 11:30 – 12:30.  Lunch begins at 12:30 with the keynote speaker and Live Auction.

    All proceeds benefit ALS research efforts worldwide and local patient services throughout Massachusetts.  ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a devastating neuromuscular disease that usually strikes at random. First symptoms can include trouble gripping, tripping, general clumsiness, and in some cases, slurred speech. As the disease progresses, it takes away a person’s ability to walk, speak, move, swallow and breathe, usually in just a few years. There is no known cause, no cure, and no effective therapies.   • Saturday, July 18 – Meals in the Meadow

    You are invited to The FARM Institute’s annual auction and celebration Meals in the Meadow on Saturday, July 18th held under the stars in the pastoral setting of Katama Farm in Edgartown, MA.

    This year The FARM is pulling out all the stops to celebrate nine years of reconnecting children and adults to the land, animals and each other. Indulge in priceless auction items, eat locally grown food prepared by some of the Island’s best chefs and dance your boots off with The Cattle Drivers and other local musicians.

    Island auctioneer celebrity and auctioneer Trippy Barnes will be taking the reins of the live and silent auction.

    Throughout the evening there will be plenty of food to sustain your soul. From sushi to oysters to chocolate desserts to smoked tomato martinis and everything in between your appetite will be more then satisfied.
