  • Wednesday, February 13, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Chinese Gardens

    Landscape designer Lynette Tsiang will give a presentation on Chinese gardens with an emphasis on historical context and design principles. She will cover the many versions of the Chinese garden, from urban renewal and contemporary parks to classical Scholar Gardens. The presentation will be the centerpiece of the Somerville Garden Club February meeting on Wednesday, February 13 from 7 – 9 at the Tufts Administration building, 167 Holland Street in Somerville.  All SGC meetings are free, and the public is invited to attend. Meetings include club announcements, a plant question and answer segment, and a raffle of donated plants and garden-related items.

    Onsite parking is available and the building is a short walk from the Davis Square Red Line T stop. Meetings are on the second floor, wheelchair accessible.

  • Wednesday, November 14, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Growing and Care of Begonias

    On Wednesday, November 14, from 7 – 9, Wanda McNair, horticulturist, columnist and educator, will discuss the different types of Begonias, and demonstrate the propagation of such along with discussing and demonstrating the growing of high humidity plants in enclosed containers. She will bring live material to the meeting for her demo.   • Saturday, September 15, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Perennial and House Plant Sale

    The Somerville Garden Club will hold a perennial and house plant sale on Saturday, September 15, from 9 – 1 at Statue Park in Davis Square, at the intersection of College Avenue and Holland Streets in Somerville, across from the Red Line Davis Square MBTA stop. Perennials for sun and shade, herbs, ground covers, shrubs, and houseplants–every gardener will find a treasure among the hundreds of plants for sale. Somerville Garden Club members and friends of the club donate both reliable, and sometimes rare, favorites from their own gardens for others to get to know and enjoy.  Proceeds support the programs and citywide public plantings of the Somerville Garden Club.   • Tuesday, September 11, 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm – Somerville Garden Club Pizza Night Fundraiser

    The Somerville Garden Club will receive a portion of the sale of every pizza sold on the evening of September 11 ( 5 – 10) at Flatbread Pizza Company, 45 Day Street in Somerville. Please come and enjoy the delicious pizzas, organic salads, and sinful desserts–all with locally sourced ingredients. There is also a full bar to compliment your meal. Eat in and watch the bowling lanes that are the legacy of former occupant Sacco’s Bowl Haven, or get a pizza to go for a relaxing meal at home, 617-776-0552. Reservations are accepted, but the large dining room always has a table available.

    Somerville Garden Club members will speak and give demonstrations on four garden related topics: raising and re-potting orchids, planting a terrarium or glass Wardian case, making greeting cards with horticultural photos, and creating a garden journal, on Wednesday, November 9, from 7 – 9 pm at the Tufts Administration Building, 167 Holland Street in Somerville.  All Somerville Garden Club meetings are free and the public is invited to attend.     The Somerville Garden Club will hold a Perennial and House Plant Sale on Saturday, September 17, from 9 – 1 at Statue Park in Davis Square, Somerville.  Enjoy a wide variety of house plants, sun and shade loving perennials, shrubs, herbs and groundcovers, ranging from old-fashioned favorites to connoisseur plants – all reasonably priced.  Proceeds help support the free lectures and public plantings sponsored by the non-profit Somerville Garden Club, so let’s all get out and support our sister club.  For more information visit www.somervillegardenclub.org.

  • Saturday, September 18, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Perennial and House Plant Sale

    This annual sale sponsored by the Somerville Garden Club is a must for gardeners hunting for locally grown plants. An interesting variety of perennials, houseplants, small shrubs and trees will be available, all at very reasonable prices. Horticultural information and a table for children make the day even more enjoyable. The event helps support Somerville’s non profit garden club’s many outreach, education and planting programs.The event takes place Saturday, September 18, from 9 – 1, rain or shine, at Statue Park in Davis Square, on the intersection of Holland St. and College Avenue, across from the Somerville Theatre in Somerville.  Free admission.
