    The Somerville Garden Club 2017 Garden Tour, Big Gardens, Small Spaces, showcases the creativity and variety of compact gardens. 21 gardens will be open to ticket holders. Walk through gardens of different styles, featuring shady perennials, colorful sun-loving flowers, statuary, vegetable plots, ponds, bee hives, unusual shrubs and trees, native plants and interesting hardscaping surrounding Somerville Garden Club member homes, and our three public garden sites. Gardeners will be welcoming visitors to their yards and will be available to answer questions. This is a rare chance to learn about plants, design, and horticulture from this wonderful array of passionate SGC members. Prepare to be inspired and educated, and don’t be surprised if you come away eager to work on your own urban landscape. Come for fun, leave with inspiration! Gardens provide pleasure for our gardeners, our neighbors, and in many cases, a haven for native plants, birds, and local wildlife. Proceeds from the 2017 Garden Tour support the educational programs and public plantings of the Somerville Garden Club.
    Advance tickets go on sale June 2nd and will also be available online at http://www.somervillegardenclub.org/ The self-guided tour will be held Sunday, June 25 from 11 – 4, rain or shine, and tickets are $18.

  • Sunday, June 9, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm – Backyard Havens of the Somerville Garden Club: A Self Guided Tour

    On Sunday, June 9, from 11 – 4, rain or shine, enjoy the Backyard Havens of the Somerville Garden Club.  Tickets are $15, and you may purchase tickets in advance at the Pemberton Garden Center, 2225 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, Porter Square Books, and True Grounds Cafe and Coffeehouse, 717 Broadway, Ball Square in Somerville.  On Sunday June 2, tickets will also be on sale at The Davis Flea Market, Corner of Holland Street and Buena Vista Road in Davis Square.  On the day of the event, there will be a table at Davis Square Statue Park, opposite the MBTA.  Procees from the tour support the educational programs and public plantings of the Somerville Garden Club.  For more information visit www.somervillegardenclub.org.

  • Sunday, July 25, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm – The Incredible Edible Gardens of Somerville

    Somerville celebrates the talents and traditions of its urban farmers, with this 31-site tour of public and private edible gardens on Sunday, July 25, from 11 – 5. Gardening techniques will be demonstrated on composting, rain catching, bee keeping,and other topics throughout the day. The self-guided tour is sponsored by the Somerville Garden Club.  You may also email swilkins@mit.edu for more information.

    The Somerville Garden Club was founded in 1994 by a group of Somerville residents to promote home gardening as well as the horticultural possibilities of Somerville’s public spaces. Of the club’s over 200 members, some are experienced gardeners, some are beginners; some are residents of Somerville, and about a third come from surrounding communities. All gardening enthusiasts are welcome to participate in their activities.
