    The Trustees of Reservations will sponsor the 2026 South End Garden Tour on Saturday, June 20, from 10 – 4. The Tour will start at the Berkeley Community Garden, 500 Tremont Street in the South End. Tickets are $28 for Trustees Members and $35 for nonmembers. However, volunteers will receive a free ticket. The committee is looking for people to help with setup, tour assistants, cleanup, photographers, and musicians.     The garden gates open in Boston’s South End for the annual South End Tour. This always-popular neighborhood event provides an opportunity to explore some of the South End’s most spectacular private outdoor spaces. Thread through alleys and walkways for a self-guided, behind-the-scenes look at gardens ranging from intimate, informal, and even quirky spaces designed by resident gardeners, to the work of noted landscape designers — many of which are open to the public only on the day of this tour. The tour rotates through the neighborhood opening new gardens every year. All proceeds support our gardens and educational programming throughout Boston’s gardens.

    New this year, tour tickets will be advance purchase only for timed entry in order to avoid crowding within the tour sites. Trustees of Reservations members $28, nonmembers $35. Register HERE. For more information call 617-869-6720.

    This year’s South End Garden Tour on June 15 from 10 – 4 is centered on gardens and green spaces in and around the Rutland Square, Pilot Block, Claremont Park, and the Chester Square neighborhoods. A mix of public and private spaces including  private back yards, front gardens, roof deck gardens, community gardens, and neighborhood ‘pocket parks.’ Artists will return to the gardens this year and the tour will be followed by a reception and sale of their wet works. Admission to the reception and sale is included in the tour admission.

    Located in the country’s largest district of surviving brick Victorian row houses, this year’s South End Garden Tour will once again include rooftop terrace gardens with city views, private backyard and front yard gardens, community gardens, and neighborhood parks.

    This year’s tour (Saturday, June 18, 10 – 4, rain or shine) encompasses gardens located within the Columbus Avenue, Tremont Street, Berkeley Street and West Newton Street area of the South End. The tour will begin at the Boston Center for the Arts Plaza at the corner of Clarendon and Tremont Street.     On Saturday, June 20, 2015, this year’s rain-or-shine, self-guided South End Garden Tour will kick off at the South End Branch of the Boston Public Library at 685 Tremont Street from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Tour will feature many beautiful, diverse gardens in the South End – from pocket-sized patio spaces to rooftop terraces to neighborhood parks and community gardens. All of the gardens show the creativity of the owners and gardeners, and the joy they receive from developing and caring for a city garden. The Tour, a major neighborhood event, attracts garden lovers from all over the city as well as the suburbs, who are often surprised and amazed to find such creative use of outdoor urban space. South End artists will be creating paintings in the Tour gardens and other designated locations within the Tour area. The painting will be available for purchase at the reception from 4 – 6 immediately following the Tour.  The reception/art sale will be held at City Year headquarters, 287 Columbus Avenue, Boston MA 02116 (corner of Clarendon Street). Because the South End encompasses such a large area, the tour visits a different area of the neighborhood every year. The tour revisits the same portion only every four to five years. Within that cycle, the gardens have changed dramatically. It’s never the same tour twice! Back for 2013 – Artists In the Garden. South End artists will be creating paintings in the Tour gardens and other designated locations within the Tour area. The painting will be available for purchase at the reception immediately following the Tour.     Proceeds of the Tour benefit the South End/Lower Roxbury Open Space Land Trust, a non-profit organization supporting local community gardens and open spaces, through Boston Natural Areas Network. The SELROSLT was established to protect community gardens and pocket parks in this historic Boston neighborhood while working with the South End Landmarks Commission.   • Wednesday, September 7, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – South End Community Gardens Walking Tour

    This interpretive walk on Wednesday, September 7, from 5:30 – 7:30, will visit several community gardens, pocket parks and historic squares in the South End. You will learn about each site’s history and varied gardening styles; from vertical growing to season extending to contemplative design. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water and a camera.
