  • Thursday, April 11, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm – 27th Annual Gibson House Museum Benefit: Save the Date

    The Gibson House Museum will hold its 27th Annual Benefit at the historic St. Botolph Club on April 11, 2024. The Museum’s primary fundraising event, the Benefit raises funds critical to maintaining the house and its collections and providing public educational programming.

    Our 2024 Benefit theme will be “The Sporting Life,” with a nod to the Gibsons and other nineteenth-/early-twentieth-century families who spent much of their leisure time enjoying outdoor activities. 

    Our honoree will be Boston’s Community Boating, the oldest public sailing organization in the country, for its mission of breaking down the physical, social, and financial hurdles that sailing frequently presents and providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds and abilities to experience the joys of being on the water.

  • Wednesday, April 26, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Twilight Garden Party: Think Spring

    There is still time to purchase tickets for the Garden Club of the Back Bay’s major fund raiser, the Twilight Garden Party. The event is on April 26 at 6 pm at the St. Botolph Club, 199 Commonwealth Avenue. $220 – $5,000. Sign up through Eventbrite HERE.

  • Tuesday, April 11, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – À la Belle Époque

    The Friends of the Gibson House Museum invite you to “À la Belle Époque,” a fun and festive party with a French theme. The evening includes drinks, a light supper, a raffle, and French music performed by singer Angela Rossi, pianist Lefteris Kordis, and accordionist Sonny Barbato. The event takes place April 11 from 6 – 9 at the St. Botolph Club, 199 Commonwealth Avenue.

    Join us in honoring the French Library, our Back Bay neighbor, for its many years of providing high-quality French-language instruction and cultural programs that inspire our community. We recognize, too, the library’s dedication to preserving Boston’s architectural history with a recent renovation of its 1867 brownstone headquarters that sensitively balances future needs with a respect for the building’s original charm and character. 

    All proceeds will support the preservation and operation of the Gibson House Museum. Festive attire, French flair optional!

  • Tuesday, September 13, 12:00 noon – Garden Club of the Back Bay New Members’ Luncheon Reception

    The Garden Club of the Back Bay welcomes its new members – invitations will be sent – to lunch at the St. Botolph Club on September 13.   • Tuesday, September 21 – Gibson House Annual Benefit

    We are very happy to announce that the Gibson House Museum will hold its Annual Benefit—IN PERSON!—on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Boston’s St. Botolph Club. The honoree will be the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay, which has worked tirelessly for over 65 years to preserve Back Bay’s architectural beauty and residential character. We had hoped to honor the association at last year’s canceled Benefit, and look forward to doing so this year.

    The Benefit is our major fundraising event, and this year we will celebrate with a “Roaring Twenties” theme. The party will feature drinks, food, trivia, and music and dancing from the 1920s. We’ll also offer fun ’20s-themed raffle items for you to take a chance on.

  • Thursday, May 14, 4:30 pm – – Gibson House Museum Virtual Benefit

    The Gibson House Museum is sponsoring on online raffle whose proceeds will go a long way towards replacing lost support form the Museum’s closure and cancellation of its annual benefit due to the corona virus crisis. As you may recall, NABB was to be honored at the cancelled benefit.
     
    There will be an Instagram live-streamed raffle drawing on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 4:30 pm. Please visit www.thegibsonhouse.org for details and to purchase tickets.   • Wednesday, May 1, 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm -Twilight Garden Party: Caring For Our City Trees : SAVE THE DATE

    Co-chairs Stephanie Fletcher, Mary Carty, Carrie Pelzel, and Susan Viano are pleased to announce the date of this year’s Garden Club of the Back Bay spring benefit, the Twilight Garden Party: Caring For Our City Trees. We will return to the beautiful St. Botolph Club, 199 Commonwealth Avenue, on Wednesday, May 1 from 6 – 8:30. Planning is underway, and Garden Club members who wish to lend a hand are encouraged to let us know at info@bostonflora.com. Details will follow in the coming months, but put the party on your calendars now!

  • Wreath of the Day – St. Botolph Club

    We designed a wreath for the inner front door of the St. Botolph Club, where this year’s Twilight Garden Party – Caring For Our City Trees will be held on May 1.  The St. Botolph Club is known for its artist/writer/composer members, and the ribbon was perfectly chosen, threaded with musical notes and natural materials. A shot of it on the door may be seen on our Instagram feed.

  • Through May 13 – The Birds & The Bees: In Celebration of the Pollinators

    Mary O’Malley’s work begins with a fascination with nature, combined with a love of pattern, decoration, and ornamentation. In this series, she explores pollinating species, from hummingbirds to moths, bees to beetles, as well as other beneficial insects and the plants they pollinate. Many pollinator species are threatened with extinction, which will have deep and troubling consequences to biodiversity and our own sustainability. O’Malley depicts the pollinators and plants enshrined in golden grids that recall religious altars, expressing a reverence for these essential creatures that are so vital to our ecosystem, and ultimately, our survival.

    Mary O’Malley’s primary medium is drawing. Inspired by forms and patterns in nature, her work is characterized by intricate detail and a labor-intensive process that becomes a meditative experience for both artist and viewer. O’Malley graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1997. In 2005, she received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York. She has an extensive exhibition history, including shows at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA, the Fitchburg Art Museum in Fitchburg, MA, as well as at galleries in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles. Her work has been included twice in the juried publication, New American Paintings. She is the recipient of multiple grants, including two Massachusetts Cultural Council grants and the St. Botolph Club Grant-in-Aid Award. In 2010, her work was acquired by the United States Embassy in Dubai, as part of the Art in Embassies program. Currently, her work can be found at Walker Contemporary in Vermont and 13 Forest Gallery in Arlington, MA. She lives and works on the Seacoast of New Hampshire, not far from the ocean.

    The 2018 Twilight Garden Party will be held Tuesday, June 5th, from 6 – 8:30 pm at the historic St. Botolph Club, 199 Commonwealth Avenue in Back Bay. Designed by McKim, Mead and White, the Club’s beautiful, historic interior is a perfect setting for our annual fund raising event.

    The Garden Club of the Back Bay is committed to the trees and greens spaces of our historic Back Bay neighborhood. We work hard all year to keep the trees healthy and beautiful for future generations of Bostonians and visitors. Trees provide us with healthy air to breathe and a shady path to walk. This spring we embark on a new and exciting project in partnership with the City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department, planting 23 new trees in the last block of Marlborough Street (between Massachusetts Avenue and Charlesgate East.) The Marlborough Street Tree Project is even more ambitious than our very successful Clarendon Street Tree Project. The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay and the Charlesgate Alliance heartily endorse us.

    This year we are launching a new website, BackBayTrees.org, that will serve as a visual, online database of all trees in the Back Bay.
