    The Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts will present its 18th Annual Cactus and Succulent Festival on Norfolk Town Common and also in the Norfolk Library, 2 Liberty Lane, Norfolk, on September 14. The Festival is open on Saturday from 9 – 4. Admission is free. The first 50 attendees each day will receive a free cactus or succulent plant. See hundreds of striking cacti and succulents.   • Saturday, April 13, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sunday, April 14, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Cactus & Succulent Show and Sale

    The Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society will celebrate its 36th Annual Cactus and Succulent Show and Sale on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday April 14th. at the Bristol Senior Community Center, 240 Stafford Avenue in Bristol. Connecticut.

    This is the largest show of its kind in the Eastern U.S., with over two thousand visitors each year.

    The judged show has more than 100 categories with over 500 entries. In addition, there will be at least 15 vendors with a huge selection of C&S plants, pots, soils, and books.

    The sales area will be open to the public on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on Sunday from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Free plants will be given to the first 50 families entering the show on both days. Admission is free.

    There will also be a series of free lectures (a schedule of lectures will be posted on the below website) and auctions of larger plants.

    The Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts invites you to one of the largest cactus and succulent shows on the East Coast, with over 400 cacti and succulents on exhibit, Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13, from 9 – 5 at the Americal Civic Center, 467 Main Street in Wakefield. Adults $5, Children 10 and under $2. There will be free guided tours of the plants and displays, and plants for sale from some of the best growers in the East. Stay for the daily auction of rare, collectible, and specimen plants. Also, there will be books, prints, pots and more for sale. $1 winter hardy cacti for your garden are in limited supply, so arrive early.   • Saturday, April 9 – Sunday, April 10 – 28th Annual Cactus & Succulent Show

    The Connecticut Cactus and Succulent Society will hold its 28th  Annual Show and Sale on Saturday, April 9, from 10 – 5, and Sunday, April 10, from 10 – 4, at Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Art & Music Center Cafeteria, Fifth Floor, 750 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, Connecticut (Exit 18 off I-84).  Free admission.  This is a judged show, with an auction, refreshments, book sale, lectures and demonstrations. Many leading cactus and succulent vendors will be there.  Each day the first 50 families will receive a free plant.  Lectures will cover such topics as Raising Succulents from Seed, Yankee Ingenuity in Horticulture, Flower Show Growing and Preparation, Living Stones, Potting Mixes for Succulents, Hardy Cacti for the New England Garden, and Ariocarpus (pictured below, in an image from www.botanica.uk.net.)  Each lecture lasts approximately 20 minutes, and programs are subject to change.  For more information, log on to www.ctcactusclub.com, or call 860-489-8356.

  • Saturday, October 17, 1:00 – 4:00 pm – Succulent Pelargoniums

    The Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts (www.cssma.org) will present a program on Succulent Pelargoniums on Saturday, October 17, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston.  The program will be led by Dr. Matt Opel, of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary biology at the University of Connecticut.  While Dr. Opel’s research focuses on micromorphology and anatomy of Conophytum leaves, he also enjoys Japanese animation, gardening, and hiking, so the program should prove to be quite interesting.
