Thursday, November 15, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm – Creating a Container of Succulents

Learn all the tricks of the trade for creating a beautiful container full of these gorgeous xerophytes! The Thursday, November 15 demonstration by Carrie Waterman of Noanett Garden Club will cover appropriate species, containers, growing medium, topdressing and aftercare.

Presentations will begin at 7pm and go until all questions are answered. The classes are priced at $12 for Mass Hort members and $15 for non-members unless otherwise indicated. There is no need to pre-register and you may pay at the class. Location: The Parkman Room, Education Building, Gardens at Elm Bank, 900 Washington Street, Wellesley.


Saturday, February 25, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Hot Scaping with Succulents, Orchids and More

Investigate the trend of gardening with plants from around the world, in a demonstration/workshop to be held at Berkshire Botanical Garden on Saturday, February 25, from 1 – 3.  Consider agaves and other succulents as low maintenance patio plants that double as houseplants for the winter months. Learn about orchids and how to care for these exotic beauties. Practical information on selection, cultivation, maintenance and overwintering will be covered, with a focus on keeping plants beautiful and healthy. Students will practice dividing and repotting a variety of specimen plants and take home divisions to grow on. Materials are included in the cost of the workshop (BBG members $37, non-members $45), but please bring gloves, pruners, and a cardboard box to transport your plants home.  Additional plants will be for sale following the class.  To register, visit www.berkshirebotanical.org.

Rob Gennari is a garden designer and owner of Glendale Botanicals, a specialty tropical nursery located in Berkshire County. He uses tropical plants in his design work and has in-depth experience with propagating, growing, and maintaining these plants.

The Cactus and Succulent Society of Massachusetts will hold a show and sale at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 18, from 12 – 5 pm, and on Sunday, September 19, from 10 – 4.  Since the founding of the group in 1991, the CSSM has participated in the New England Spring Flower Show several times, winning ribbons and other awards.  You will be able to purchase plants as well as learn about care and propagation.  This judged show contains 100 categories of cactus and succulents.  There will be guided tours of the show twice daily, a plant auction of special varieties, and specialty vendors selling both beginning and collector plants.  Also, you will enjoy the kids planting station.  For more information log on to www.ccsma.org or www.towerhillbg.org.

Saturday, April 17, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm – Art’s Traveling Cactus & Succulents Plant Show

Not just spines! Lots of unusual and fascinating plants most people can easily grow. Hundreds of rare and bizarre plants strutting their stuff! Art Scarpa of the Cactus and Succulent Society will bring along both indoor tropical and hardy outdoor plants, depending upon the season, to Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston for this instructional class on Saturday, April 17, beginning at 11 am and running through 12:30 pm.
