  • Thursday, October 7, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Gel Plate Fall Leaves Collage

    Join artist and teacher Suzanne Hauerstein on October 7 from 1 – 3:30 at Tower Hill Botanic Garden for an all levels crafting class. In this workshop you will create dozens of botanical and abstract prints using acrylic paints and a commercially made gelatin plate. You will use those prints and other vintage ephemera to create an artwork collage piece ready for framing to hang on your wall! All materials will be provided for this workshop.

She has over 25 years of experience designing and facilitating art-based programs for informal learning environments.   • Thursday, May 27, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Pressed Flower & Framed Herbarium Workshop

    Students will construct their own flower press in the Tower Hill Botanic Garden classroom on May 27 at 1 pm, then go outside to pick some wildflowers to put the press to use. Students will come back inside to create a pressed flower, glass framed herbarium of their own design using pre-pressed leaves and flowers. All materials will be provided. This program will be held indoors in one of our well-ventilated classrooms. Group size will not exceed current state restrictions.   • Friday, February 12, 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Watercolor Wintergreens

    Learn about color theory, composition and how to paint from observation, in this Tower Hill Botanic Garden class on February 12 from 1 – 3:30. Winter greens such as pine, eucalyptus, cedar and brightly colored citrus fruit will be the inspiration for our compositions. All material is included. This program will be held indoors in one of our well-ventilated classrooms. Group size will not exceed current state restrictions.

  • Monday, November 16, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm – Woven Wall Hangings

    This Tower Hill Botanic Garden program with Suzanne Hauerstein will be held indoors in one of our well-ventilated classrooms on Monday, November 16 from 10:30 – 1. Group size will not exceed current state restrictions. Max Participants: 10

    Using natural wool and neutral colored yarns learn to weave this warm wall hanging. Different weaving techniques and natural materials will be used. All materials will be included.

    Learn a hand printing technique to create prints of leaves, flowers, and botanical designs. Then cut and compose your prints into a collage that is ready to hang on your wall. All materials will be included. This Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 10:30 am-1:00 pm program will be held under Tower Hill Botanic Garden’s open sided outdoor canopy tent.     Learn simple bookbinding techniques to create a zig zag book with signatures. Fill your newly created book with vintage imagery of birds, eggs, and nests.   • Thursday, August 27, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm – Print and Stitch

    Tower Hill Botanic Garden has scheduled a workshop on August 27 from 10:30 – 12:30 with Suzanne Hauerstein. Use fresh botanicals and printmaking inks to create an embroidery hoop canvas, wall art piece. After printing we will add simple, free-form embroidery accents using needle and embroidery floss. Printmaking and stitching demonstrations will be shown. No experience necessary. Tower Hill member price $46, nonmembers $56. Register at www.towerhillbg.org.   • Sunday, July 15, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm – Encaustics Painting Workshop

    In this one day Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop on July 15 from 11 – 3, we will cover the basic techniques for creating an art piece using encaustic paint (pigmented beeswax). Create a series of small artworks with collaged paper, found objects, photographs, image transfer, incised and carved line drawings and fusing techniques. Supplies are included, but please bring any papers, photographs, photocopies or other objects you would like to use in your artwork. Beginners welcome.

    Instructor Suzanne Hauerstein (a piece of her encaustic art is pictured below) is a studio artist and art instructor based in Central Massachusetts. She began working with encaustics in 2005 after a decade long career as a ceramic artist. Her works have been included in museum and gallery exhibitions in Texas and throughout the east coast, including Brooklyn, New York, Mystic, Connecticut and multiple locations throughout Rhode Island and Central Massachusetts and the Greater Boston area. $75 for Tower Hill members, $85 for nonmembers.
