    The Party in the Park Committee invites you to an exclusive, hehind-the-scenes tour of the Benjamin-Constant murals at the historic Ames-Webster Mansion on Tuesday, April 2, beginning at 6 pm. Hear a presentation and view the murals with award-winning architect and designer Kahlil Hamady and Leslie-jon Vickory of Hamady Architects at 306 Dartmouth Street. Then, at 7, there will be a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception at the Thayer Mansion, 305 Commonwealth Avenue. Tickets are $125.     The Friends of Copley Square invite you to help Care for the Square on Wednesday, September 27. The evening begins at 5:30 with Cocktails and hors d’oeuvre by The Catered Affair in the Courtyard Cafe in the Boston Public Library on Copley Square. Then, continue the evening with a special Farm to Table Dinner by Chef Sean MacAlpine in the Dome Room of the Lenox Hotel, from 7 – 9. Tickets are $175 per person (table for eight guests – $1,200).     The Beacon Hill Garden Club invites you to celebrate spring at the Second Annual Soirée on Beacon Hill, on Wednesday, May 17 from 5 – 8 in the historic garden of the King’s Chapel Parish House.     The Friends of Copley Square will hold its annual summer fund raiser on Thursday, June 25 beginning at 6:00 pm at the Copley Square Fountain, hosted by Janet Wu.  Listen to a concert of music by rock a capella group Peking and the Mystics while enjoying a delicious picnic bag provided by The Catered Affair. Friends of Copley Square is an organization dedicated to the preservation and beautification of Copley Square The picnic and concert is followed by a reception just steps away at the Boston Common Hotel at 40 Trinity Place in Back Bay. The reception includes open bar with cuisine from some of the best restaurants in the Back Bay including Ben & Jerry’s, The Catered Affair, City Table, Haru, La Voile, OAK Long Bar + Kitchen, Precinct, Smith & Wollensky, and Stephanie’s on Newbury.

    The mission of Friends of Copley Square is to preserve and enhance the park as a recreational resource for residents, workers, and visitors in the City of Boston.

  • Tuesday, December 2, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm – Copley Square Tree Lighting and Holiday Festivities

    Mayor Martin J. Walsh, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, and The Friends of Copley Square will celebrate the holidays with the annual Copley Square Tree Lighting on Tuesday, December 2, from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

    The free event will feature appearances by Mayor Walsh, WHDH-TV’s Janet Wu, Santa Claus, and Rudolph along with live entertainment including members of the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble, the Trinity Church Choristers, vocalist Sheree Dunwell, and a holiday sing-along.

    The Old South Church bell will toll when the tree is illuminated. Light refreshments will be provided by local businesses and the Fairmont Copley Plaza will host a family reception immediately following for all in attendance.

    The reception will include cookie decorating, photos with Santa and treats from Georgetown Cupcake, Pain d’Avignon, and the Fairmont Copley Plaza.

    In addition, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Copley Square will become a spot for family revelry with jugglers, stilt walkers, and festive music provided by Magic 106.7, Boston’s holiday music station.

    Even more festivities will take place in and around Copley Square on December 2. The Boston Public Library and The Catered Affair will host a Storytime and Candy Cane Tea at The Fairmont Copley Plaza from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The tea is free but reservations are required by calling (617) 859-2282.

    The Garden Club of the Back Bay held its annual January Tea this year at The Catered Affair at The Boston Public Library, and we would like to thank Holly Safford, the magnificently talented owner of The Catered Affair, and most especially Food and Beverage Manager Markos Doyle, for the delicious and elegant tea.  Pictures of members enjoying themselves can be found on our Facebook Page, but below are a couple of photos to tempt you – tea is served Wednesday through Friday, 2 – 4.

  • Tuesday, January 15, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Annual Garden Club of the Back Bay Winter Tea

    Each January we thank our members for their support with a Winter Tea, this year to be held Tuesday, January 15 beginning at 3 pm at The Courtyard Restaurant at The Boston Public Library.  Overlooking the beautiful Italianate courtyard in the BPL’s historic McKim building, the Courtyard Restaurant is steeped in history and loaded with delightful tea selections.  Holly Safford of The Catered Affair will see to our every need.  We will enjoy a selection of tea sandwiches which may include (subject to the whims of the market) cucumber with herb cream cheese, smoked salmon butter canapes, apricot chicken salad, turkey & Earl Grey butter on marble rye, lobster with chive cream cheese on mini lemon butter crust buns, tomato with crumbled bacon, date nut bread with honey cream cheese, currant scones, four fruit marmalade, Devonshire double cream, plus fresh fruit tartlets, assorted French macaroons, Irish coffee bars, raspberry thumbprints, chocolate sinclairs, and your choice of premium loose leaf teas. Members are invited to ask friends to join them, although we must charge a separate increased fee for guests. The Club underwrites a substantial portion of the expense of this meeting on behalf of our valued volunteers.  $35 for Garden Club members, $45 for guests.  Members will receive a written invitation after the first of the year.  If you are not a member but would like to attend, please email info@bostonflora.com to put your name on the invitation list.

    The Community Garden Club of Duxbury will sponsor a tour on Thursday, June 21 from 10 am – 3 pm (rain date Friday, June 22.)  Advance tickets for $20 will be available at Consider the Lilies, Foodies Market, Sandy Lambert’s Market Place, Talbots Snug Harbor, and Westwinds Bookshop.  Day of tour tickets will be priced at $25.  Refreshments, using historic recipes, will be provided by The Catered Affair.  The tour is also sponsored by the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society and 375 Duxbury.  Visit www.communitygardenclubofduxbury.org.

  • Tuesday, June 21, 5:30 pm – Summer Solstice Stroll

    The Friends of Copley Square invite you to the second annual Summer Solstice Stroll, a walking tour and celebration of Copley Square’s landmarks, on Tuesday, June 21, beginning at 5:30 pm.  A reception at The Courtyard Restaurant at the Boston Public Library is hosted by The Catered Affair. This is an exclusive opportunity to hear an illustrated talk by Henry N. Cobb, FAIA, architect of the John Hancock Tower an founding partner of Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, on the design of the Tower with reference to the presence of Trinity Church and the evolution of Copley Square.  You will experience an insider’s view of the stained glass and enjoy an organ demonstration at Trinity Church.  You will visit the Civil War Exhibitions at the Boston Public Library, and hear a musical performance at Old South Church inspired by the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War.  Following this array of events, you will be treated to a delicious light buffet supper hosted by The Fairmont Copley Plaza.
