  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 24 – 26, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm – A Gardener’s Wreath

    Tower Hill Botanic Gardens has scheduled a three hour workshop on wreath making which you may take on any one of three different days, November 24 – 26, with instructor Karen Perkins. Design a beautiful botanical wreath from a colorful assortment of choice evergreens, including some collected on the grounds at Tower Hill. Accent your wreath with a variety of dried materials; bow making instructions will be included. This unique outdoor wreath is made on a foam ring which can be moistened to last all winter. Bring pruning shears, wire cutters, and a towel. All materials included. The class begins each day at 11:30. $65 for Tower Hill members, $75 for nonmembers. Register online at www.towerhillbg.org.

    Karen Perkins, former Director of Education at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, has been teaching folks how to fashion singularly beautiful holiday decorations for almost 30 years.   • Sunday, November 19, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm – Thanksgiving Centerpiece

    On Sunday, November 19, 1:30-3pm at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, join instructor Laura Jean Pecci, LJ Floral & Event Design (Cambridge) for a workshop on Thanksgiving centerpieces. Create a lush, loose, natural autumn arrangement- perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday table. Focal flowers will be accented with unique textures, and seasonal elements of interest. All Materials included in fee ($90 for Tower Hill members, $100 for nonmembers).

    For the past decade, Laura Jean Pecci has been a creative force in floral design in Boston and beyond. As head designer at the most esteemed shops in the city, Laura Jean was responsible for creating and filling orders for their most prestigious clients. Three years ago, Pecci headed out on her own and founded LJ Floral and Design. Quickly growing out of her studio space, her business blossomed and she moved to a storefront location in Cambridge complete with boutique and in-house design studio, and a rock star design crew, made up of floral enthusiasts, avid gardeners, and artists.   • Saturday, November 18, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm – The Festive Table

    Learn how to combine fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts with seasonal berries and gathered evergreens to decorate your home and table for Thanksgiving and the Winter Holidays. Betsy Williams will demonstrate simple ideas and techniques for creating naturalistic, seasonal centerpieces, guest favors and door treatments. Each attendee will decorate a gourd with dried flowers, nuts and berries and make a boxwood apple candle to take home. All materials and handouts included. This Tower Hill Botanic Garden class will take place Saturday, November 18 from 10 – 12:30.

    Betsy Williams teaches, lectures and writes about living with herbs and flowers. A gardener and herb grower since 1972, Betsy trained as a florist in Boston and England. She combines her floral and gardening skills with an extensive knowledge of history, plant lore and seasonal celebrations. Betsy is the author of several books on the uses and stories of herbs and flowers. She has appeared on the Discovery Channel and greater Boston cable stations as well as local and national radio talk shows. Betsy lectures and teaches locally and nationally.     Terrariums capture miniature living worlds within glass walls. View stunning terrarium displays from professionals and amateurs alike, at the Terrarium Show at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, on Saturday, November 11 and Sunday, November 12.   • Sunday, October 29, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Sunken Gardens

    On Sunday, October 29 from 2 – 4, after learning the basic needs of aquatic plants and how they can be met in a home aquarium, watch a live aquascaping demonstration with plenty of opportunity for Q&A, at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts. The program is free with admission to the garden.

    Karen Randall, author of Sunken Gardens, is an international speaker on aquarium subjects, past president of the Boston Aquarium Society, and serves on the board of the Aquatic Gardeners Association. She was editor of the AGA magazine, The Aquatic Gardener, for 5 years and is now technical editor of the magazine. She serves as a judge for both the AGA International Aquascaping Contest and the Aqua Design Amano International Aquatic Plants Layout Contest as well as serving on the jury of a number of live aquascaping contests. She has also served as a consultant on several major projects at public aquaria.   • Saturday, October 28, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – The Art of Hostas

    On Saturday, October 28 at 2 pm at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, The Art of Hostas takes a vibrant, colorful and exciting look at these amazing plants in a whole new light. Rob Zimmer will showcase the qualities and characteristics of hostas that make them outstanding garden plants, both as specimens, as well as in breathtaking combinations with other plants. You’ll also see hostas used in ways you may have never seen before. Co-sponsored with New England Hosta Society.

    Rob Zimmer is an award-winning nature and garden author, columnist and radio host who has written for many daily newspapers throughout Wisconsin such as the Appleton Post-Crescent, Green Bay Press-Gazette, Oshkosh Northwestern and others. His columns also appear weekly in the Wisconsin State Farmer.     This year is the 150th anniversary of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s birthday. Her previous books include Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life, Emily Dickinson’s Gardens, and All the Presidents’ Gardens.     Ikebana International presents a Japanese Flower Exhibition at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, on Friday, October 20 (noon – 5), Saturday, October 21 (9 – 5), and Sunday, October 22 (9 – 4). There will be demonstrations each day at 2 pm, and on Saturday at 11 and Sunday at 11:30. Also, there is a special ikebana demonstration for children ages 7 and up on Sunday at 1.
