  • Saturday, July 23, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, and Sunday, July 24, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Lily Show

    Enjoy hundreds of lily flowers at the Annual Lily Show, presented by the New England Lily Society [NELS] at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24. Visitors will find new hybrids and may discover a favorite variety among those on display. Guests will encounter the wonderful fragrances and delight in the vibrant colors that abound in the genus Lilium. Some of the many varieties of lilies represented in the show include Asiatic, Canadense, Longiflorum, Trumpet Lily, and hybrid American species, and the giant “Orientpets.” Free with admission to the garden.

    The exhibit of Oriental, Asiatic, Orienpet and other hybrid lily stems will be enhanced by bouquets of flowers featuring lilies in classical and Ikebana styles of flower arranging.

    July 23, Saturday 3pm: “Sorting Out the Lilies for Classification” with Dr. David Chase, New England Lily Society Classification Chairman and Candidate Judge.

    July 24, Sunday, 12pm: “Hybridizing Lilies” with Jim Daniel, North American Lily Society Director, Certified Lily Judge and Past President of the New England Lily Society.

    July 24, Sunday 2:30pm: “Multiplying your Lilies, Seeds and Scaling”  with Patty Stewart, NELS Past President, Judging Candidate.

  • Saturday, July 16, 11:30 am – 4:30 pm – Daylily Show: Patriot Nation

    On Saturday, July 16 beginning at 11:30 am at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, The New England Daylily Society presents an exhibition where daylily enthusiasts from all over New England show their extraordinary, best grown, best groomed daylily flowers. Enjoy the educational programs offered in the theater. Also on hand will be several people selling daylilies, and a membership table to join the American Hemerocallis Society.

  • Wednesday, June 29, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Enduring Blooms: Aimee Baldwin

    Aimee Baldwin is a self-taught artist from the Bay Area who specializes in what she calls “vegan taxidermy,” creating botanical sculpture from crepe paper.  Her work was most recently featured in the October 2015 issue of Gardens Illustrated.  Her exhibit at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, will run from June 28 – July 24, and presents a herbarium of her sculpture, showing a selection of flowers and plants found in the last days of summer during an inspiring visit to Tower Hill.  Free with admission to the garden.

    In this two-part workshop (June 4 & June 11) join professional nature artist Barry Van Dusen at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, as he explores the techniques and approaches artists use to depict natural subjects, both outdoors and in the studio. The focus will be on two particular themes: BIRDS and FLOWERS, and will start with drawing methods and techniques. The workshop will include time learning the basics of watercolor painting including manipulating brushes, color mixing and more. Fee is $150 for THBG members, $180 for nonmembers.   • Tuesday, May 24, 8:00 am – 5:15 pm – Hollister House and Brush Hill Gardens Tour

    Tower Hill Botanic Garden has arranged for an exclusive tour of Hollister House and Brush Hill Gardens in Litchfield, Connecticut on Tuesday, May 24.  A bus will leave from Tower Hill at 8 am and return at approximately 5:15.  The fee ($100 for Tower Hill members, $125 for nonmembers) includes transportation, tour fee, and boxed lunch.  If you wish to arrange your own transportation, please call 508-869-6111, ext. 124 for information on when and where to meet the group in Connecticut.  The price will, however, remain the same.

    Hollister House Garden is an American interpretation of classic English gardens such as Sissinghurst, Great Dixter and Hidcote, formal in structure and informal and wild in its style of planting.  Brush Hill Gardens is home to the biographer of legendary English gardener Rosemary Verey, and has evolved over forty years.

  • Wednesday, May 18, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – The Nature of Tower Hill: Barry Van Dusen

    Barry Van Dusen is an internationally recognized wildlife artist living in Central Massachusetts.  His paintings have been featured in numerous publications and he has illustrated a variety of natural history books and pocket guides in association with the Massachusetts Audubon Society.  Over the course of one year, he visited Tower Hill 23 times, painting more than 40 watercolors of flowers, birds, insects and landscapes.  His show, An Artist’s Year in the Garden, will be on display May 17 – June 26 at Tower Hill, 11 French Drive in Boylston, and an opening reception will take place Wednesday, May 18 from 6 – 8 pm.  Free with admission to the garden.  In addition, there will be talks and garden tours on May 26 and June 25 from 10 – 11:30, at a Tower Hill member cost of $10, non-members $20.  To register for the talks, call 508-869-6111, ext 124, or visit www.towerhillbg.org.
