    Once again Historic New England will feature orchids at the Lyman Estate Greenhouses in Waltham, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 23 at 10 a.m.  Bring up to three orchid plants for evaluation by experienced horticulturists. Get advice on maintaining healthy blooming plants. Other services offered include repotting and educational handouts about orchids. Books, pots, and growing supplies are for sale.   • Friday, October 8 – Pioneers Regional Symposium

    To celebrate the recent publication of Shaping the American Landscape: New Profiles from the Pioneers of American Landscape Design Project, a series of regional symposia will be held. Each venue in this national series will spotlight specific designers, projects, and trends that collectively celebrate our unique and historically significant designed landscape heritage. Speakers will include leading historians, designers, and practitioners.  One such event will be held Friday, October 8 at the Lyman Estate, 185 Lyman Street in Waltham, Massachusetts.  The event is sponsored by The Cultural Landscape Foundation.  A complete list of participants and registration information can be found at www.tclf.org.

  • Friday, June 18, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Growing Plants Hydroponically

    Take the guesswork out of watering your plants. Learn about hydroponic culture: which plants to grow, what products you need, and how to set up and maintain your system.  The course, sponsored by Historic New England, will take place at the Lyman Estate Greenhouses in Waltham on Friday, June 18, from 10 – 12, and the fee is $20 for Garden and Landscape members, $25 for HNE members, and $35 for nonmembers.  Registration is required at www.historicnewengland.org, or call 781-891-1985.

    The Lyman Estate Greenhouses will host the annual Hosta and Perennial Sale on Thursday, June 3 – Sunday, June 6, and again Saturday, June 12 – Sunday, June 13, from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm.  Thousands of plants are available in creams, golds, blues, and mixes.  Choose from large specimen and small plants, along with many new to the market and hard-to-find varieties.  The Lyman Estate  knowledgeable staff is on hand to help you choose the right hostas for your garden.   • Saturday, May 15, Friday & Saturday, May 21 – 22, and Saturday, May 29, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Annual Garden Plant Sale at Gore Place
