  • Friends of Mount Auburn Virtual Twilight Wine Tasting

    Although we cannot be together for our annual Twilight Wine Tasting event this summer, Jay Faber of Magnolia Wine Company, in Watertown, MA has created a special offer to bring you delicious wines and support the Friends of Mount Auburn. Jay has curated a selection of five wines perfect for summer. When you order these special wines $2 from every bottle ordered will be donated to the Friends of Mount Auburn.   • Saturday, February 8, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – Wine Tasting and Talk of Boston-Developed Heirloom Grape Varieties

    Join The Massachusetts Horticultural Society on February 8 for an afternoon of wine and knowledge as we explore heirloom grapes and the wines they create.

    The life, grapes, and wines of E. S. Rogers of Salem, MA (1826-1899) will be featured at this late-afternoon talk by J. Stephen Casscles. Stephen is a Hudson Valley winemaker at the Hudson-Chatham Winery who grows many of the heirloom grape varieties that were developed by Edward S. Rogers in 1851. During our time we will talk about Rogers’ efforts to breed superior grapes in Salem, MA., his resultant grape varieties, how they grow in the field, and the kinds of wines that they make. Rogers named grape varieties include:  ‘Salem’, ‘Agawam’, Merrimac’, ‘Massasoit’, and ‘Wilder’ .

  • Friday, September 20 – Sunday, September 22 – Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival

    Tickets are on sale now for the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival, taking place September 20 – 22 at Marble House, The Elms, and Rosecliff, supporting historic preservation in Newport.  The presenting underwriter is Food & Wine magazine.   • Thursday, August 16, 5:30 pm – Wine Tasting at Washington Tower

    Mount Auburn Cemetery is the setting for a free wine tasting at Washington Tower on Thursday, August 16, beginning at 5:30 pm.  Savor a hand-picked selection of wines provided by the Magnolia Wine Company of Watertown while enjoying the late-summer beauty of Mount Auburn in the early evening hours.  Please register in advance by calling 617-607-1980.

  • Thursday, October 6, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – An Evening of Indulgence

    Please join The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay for a fun evening, sampling the finest wines, outstanding cheeses, and delicious chocolates, a delightful mix of four perfect pairings from leading Back Bay wine and chocolate experts.  There will also be a silent auction featuring items from Back Bay businesses,  The auction items will be available for viewing on the NABB website, www.nabbonlinecom.  The event will take place at The Algonquin Club, 217 Commonwealth Avenue, on Thursday, October 6, from 7 – 9.  Advance ticket price is $45 for NABB members and guests, $55 for non-members, and $65 for all at the door, if available.  No one under the age of 21 will be admitted, and a photo identification will be required.  Sponsored in part by Hotel Chocolat, the Algonquin Club, and Bacco’s Wine and Cheese.   • Friday, December 4 – Sunday, December 6 – Christmas in Salem

    The 2009 Legacy Tour, sponsored by Historic Salem, Inc.,  steps back in history, featuring 18th and 19th century homes in the Salem Common Neighborhood.  A Candlelight Tour will begin Friday, December 4, from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.  On Saturday, December 5, the tour will be open from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm, and on Sunday, December 6, from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm.  There is a Snow Date: Saturday, December 12, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.

    It’s Historic Salem’s 65th anniversary, and Christmas in Salem’s 30th holiday house tour. What better way to mark these milestones than with a Christmas house tour that includes historically significant sites on or near this year’s route, which is centered around the Salem Common neighborhood.
