  • Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 18 – Great English Gardens & the Hampton Court Flower Show

    England is famous for its gardens. The Pacific Horticulture itinerary includes vast stunning landscapes of Capability Brown, the extraordinary designs of Tim Smit and John Brookes, as well as exquisite, small cottage gardens where you can chat with the owners. You’ll visit Sissinghurst Castle, Wisley, Great Dixter, Denmans, Heligans, Hever Castle, Hampton Court Palace — where you’ll take in the spectacular Hampton Court Flower Show featuring creative display gardens and horticultural exhibits — Hestercombe, and more.

  • Sunday, September 1 – Saturday, September 7 – The Bressingham Academy

    Dr. Allan M. Armitage and Adrian Bloom have started a new school for horticulture for gardeners at Bressingham Hall, Norfolk, England.  The first opportunity begins Sunday September 1, and there are a few places left. The Bressingham Academy for Advanced Garden Studies will open its doors in September, 2013 with its first class. Only 25 students will be in the first class. Adrian Bloom and Allan Armitage, along with other highly distinquished lecturers, will present an interesting variety of topics. Lectures will take place in historic Bressingham Hall and the laboritories and outdoor classrooms will include Bressingham Gardens and the private gardens of Adrian Bloom (The Dell Garden). Along with a few other local trips and one to Wisley, the week will be full and exciting.

    Tentative class schedules and itinerary:

    Day 1 Sun, Sept 1st – Meet in London airport, Heathrow at a specific time (TBA). Coach to Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds. Dinner in hotel with Adrian and Rosemary Bloom

    Day 2, Mon, Sept 2 – From Nature to landscape – Science in the Garden. Introduction, welcome, curriculum, introduce speakers, handout materials, taught by Adrian Bloom and Allan Armitage

    Plants in Wild Places, and how they are collected, presented by Dr Chris Grey-Wilson

    Introduction to Dell Garden, the work of Alan Bloom, presented by Jaime Blake, followed by lunch at Bressingham Hall. In the afternoon, enjoy a short lecture on Taxonomy and Morphology with Allan Armitage, followed by The Dell Garden part 1 and Foggy Bottom part 1. No trip to England is complete without tea at Bressingham Hall. Dinner will be in the hotel.

    Day 3 covers The Selection of Garden Plants, Day 4 highlights Plants with a Purpose, Day 5 is Spreading the Word with a day trip to Wisley, a BBQ, and Day 6 will include a pub dinner on the way back to London before flying home.   • Monday, June 20 – Tuesday, June 28 – Bressingham England Tour

    Renowned plant expert and garden designer, Adrian Bloom invites Massachusetts Horticultural Society members and friends to join this outstanding trip June 20 – June 28 highlighted by two days at his magnificent Bressingham Gardens. It will be a remarkable opportunity to learn design techniques, plant selection, etc. from one of the foremost horticulturists in the world.

    Adrian, his wife Rosemary, and the Bressingham staff will be providing unprecedented access and inspiring insight into the 17 acres of gardens at Bressingham, England. They are eager for their guests to gain greater understanding of what lies behind the Elm Bank Bressingham garden, and how important its future can be to MassHort’s success. It will be an unforgettable experience, and the visit will be a landmark in the development of the gardens at Elm Bank.

    In addition to Bressingham, other highlights are visits to Beth Chatto’s garden and nursery; the historic city of Cambridge and the Cambridge Botanic Garden; one of the premier plant fairs in the world at Cottesbrooke Hall (pictured below); the Royal Horticultural Society’s flagship garden at Wisley; and Savill Gardens in Windsor. Joe Kunkel and Barbara Emerson are making the arrangements for the tour.

    PRICING DETAILS:

    The tour is priced in English Pounds and is £1300 double occupancy. (As of early December that was about $2000.) The Single Supplement is £267. Air travel is on your own. Breakfast is provided every day in the hotel as well as other meals as described in the itinerary. All tips, garden entry fees, and land travel are included.

    Initial deposit is $250/person and the deadline has been extended to January 31, 2011. Final payment due March 1, 2011. If final payment is not received by March 1, 2011 deposits are forfeited. Deposits will be returned in the unlikely case the minimum number of participants is not reached.

  • May 21 – May 28, 2011 – Chelsea Flower Show and English Gardens Tour
