  • Saturday and Sunday, October 23 & 24, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – American Craft Fair at Tower Hill Botanic Garden

    The Worcester Center for Crafts and Tower Hill Botanic Garden have partnered to present the fifth annual juried fair of American craftwork. Hosted at Tower Hill, the show features over 30 fine artisans representing ceramics, jewelry, wood, metalworking, glass, mixed metals, painting, fiber artists and more. The show, free with admission to the garden, will be held October 23 and 24 from 10 – 4.   • Saturday and Sunday, June 29 – 30, 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Floral Stained Glass Mandala

    Instructor Jeanne Kowal will conduct a two day workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on June 29 & 30 from 12:30 – 4. Learn all the techniques needed to create a stunning stained glass mandala window hanging. The mandala will be approximately 9″ round. A variety of colored glass will be available to choose from. When completed your mandala will be a unique and personal piece of art you will have and admire for a lifetime. Limited to 8.     Jeanne Kowal has been designing and creating stained glass for close to 40 years. She is a second generation stained glass artist who grew up with her mentor/mother stained glass artist Anne Bassett. At present Jeanne Kowal is an Instructor at The Worcester Center for Crafts (WPI/WSU) and also teaches in her private studio. She has created many large and small projects for residences, businesses, and community centers in the area and beyond. Jeanne is collaborating with her mother to create a series of stained glass design books and is also available for commissions.

  • Saturday, December 9, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm – Colorful Sand Art Terrariums

    On Saturday, December 9 from 11:30 – 2:30 at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, learn how to turn colored sand into a beautiful terrarium for your home. Layer colored sand and glass pebbles into artful patterns in a glass terrarium and then top off with a plant requiring a minimum amount of care. Miniature garden elements may be added as desired. This beautiful addition to your table top will keep you happy all year round.

    Instructor Suzanne Foxwell has trained at the Worcester Center for Crafts, Worcester Art Museum and with private instructors. Her work has been featured in several galleries on the South Shore and locally. She has always been attracted to color and has never met one she did not like. $50 for Tower Hill members, $60 for nonmembers.     New to acrylics as a medium? This Tower Hill Botanic Garden program on Thursday, July 20 from 10 – 1 (repeated Sunday, August 6, 1 – 4) is designed to boost your confidence. You will be guided with fun exercises and expert instruction to capture the shapes, textures, forms and colors of the flowers and foliage of Tower Hill’s summer gardens. All materials included.

  • Saturday, September 26, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Sunday, September 27, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm – The Craft Festival at Fruitlands

    Come check out the 5th Annual Fruitlands Craft Festival in partnership with the Worcester Center for Crafts, Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27. Artisans from all across New England are onsite for this juried festival. Handmade ceramics, fiber art, jewelry and more will be available for purchase. Held rain or shine under the tents. The Harvard Lions Club will be cooking up a storm on their famous grill and Summertime Trio will be providing music from 1-4PM both days. Your entrance fee includes admission to the museum, located at 102 Prospect Road in Harvard. Price: Museum Members $5/person, Nonmembers $10/person, Children under 12 are free.

    Note: On this weekend only, the same admission will be charged whether you are coming to the Craft Festival, just visiting the Museum buildings or eating at the Café. For more information visit www.fruitlands.org.

    Fruitlands Museum, 102 Prospect Hill Road in Harvard, is teaming up with the Worcester Center for Crafts for the fourth year to bring you a juried craft festival, Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27. Forty of the most talented artists in New England will be selling their work under the tent at Fruitlands. Mark your calendar now and get ready to do some Christmas shopping in September!

     

  • Saturday, October 29, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Decorative Copper for Your Garden

    Is your garden or landscape lacking some special accents? This Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop, co-sponsored by the Worcester Center for Crafts, could be the answer as you hammer on copper and brass sheet and wire to craft some delightful, eye-catching leaves and flowers. Use these organic designs to create hooks, vines and other hardware to decorate your walls, trellises, railings and downspouts. Back home, you will be able to apply your new cutting, forging, riveting and soldering skills to fashion an unlimited variety of garden embellishments. Students need to bring their own leather work gloves, eye safety protection, tape measure, Sharpie marker and a bag lunch. All other tools and materials will be provided. John Stevens of Dancing Hammer Forge will instruct, and the class will take place in the Metals Studio at the Worcester Center for Crafts, 25 Sagamore Road in Worcester.
