  • Saturday, December 4, 11:30 am – 12:30 pm – Winter Holiday Wreaths

    Wright-Locke Farm offers a fun opportunity to create your own decorative wreath from natural, compostable materials. We will use twine, vines, ribbons, paper, sticks, dried flowers, ribbons and berries. Wreaths are completely compostable if you remove the ribbon.

    As long as it is safe to do so, this workshop will be in-person, at the farm in Winchester. All necessary supplies will be provided and participants will go home with their own creations.

  • Saturday, February 6, 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Valentine Virtual Wreath Making Workshop

    Join Wright-Locke Farm and instructor Ferris Donham on Saturday, February 6 at 10 am online for a Valentine’s Wreath-Making Workshop — learn to create and assemble your own unique wreath using local, natural foraged materials, ornamental grasses, dried hydrangea blossoms, recycled wall paper and repurposed ribbons. It’s so rewarding to use things at hand and not contribute to the landfill! Wreaths are fully compostable after removing ribbon (but that can be reused too)!

    Cost is $40 and includes a kit with all necessary materials.

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 23, 24, and 25, 11:30 am – 2:30 pm – Gardeners’ Wreath Workshops

    Design a beautiful botanical wreath from a colorful assortment of choice evergreens, including some collected on the grounds at Tower Hill. Accent your wreath with a variety of dried materials; bow making instructions will be included. This unique outdoor wreath is made on a foam ring which can be moistened to last all winter. Bring pruning shears, wire cutters, and a towel. All materials included.

    Karen Perkins, former Director of Education at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, has been teaching folks how to fashion singularly beautiful holiday decorations for almost 30 years. Choose one: Friday, November 23, Saturday, November 24 or Sunday, November 25 – 11:30AM–2:30PM

  • Sunday, November 12, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm – Spice Up Your Home With A Grapevine Wreath

    The spice of life, all encapsulated in a wreath. Weston Nurseries, 93 East Main Street in Hopkinton, will help you craft a visual and fragrant creation. A grapevine wreath will frame a mixed arrangement of dried oranges, apples, lavender, quince, wheat moss and cinnamon sticks. A perfect way to welcome your Fall guests at your door! The class takes place Sunday, November 12 from 11 – 12:30, and is $45. Registration includes all materials. Bows available for an additional $10.     Choose one of the following times: Saturday, November 29, 1 – 4, Sunday, November 30, 9 – 12, or Sunday, November 30, 1 – 4, to participate in a Gardener’s Wreath Workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Worcester, led by instructor Karen Perkins.  Create a botanical wreath that highlights the splendor of evergreens, with many collected from Tower Hill.  Incorporate accents such as cones, dried berries, gilded twigs, seedpods, and ribbon.  Please bring pruning shears and a towel.  All other materials are provided.  $60 for THBG members, $75 for nonmembers.  Register at www.towerhillbg.org.     Get ready for the Garden Club of the Back Bay’s annual wreath making week (a detail of one of our wreaths is seen below)  by trekking out to the Berkshire Botanical Garden in West Stockbridge for this hands on workshop on Wednesday, December 1, from 1 – 3 pm.

    Create a beautiful evergreen wreath for the holidays, using the bounty of the fields and forests of the Berkshires. Learn about the natural history of common and not-so-common plants that can be used to create interesting holiday decorations. Consider a wide selection of plant material including: evergreen boughs, berries, seedpods, fern fronds and moss. Construct and take home a simple evergreen wreath. Take it home and the knowledge to create wreaths for holidays to come. Elisabeth Cary is the Director of Education at the Berkshire Botanical Garden and has been collecting plant materials from the wild and creating wreaths for over fifteen years. The cost of this workshop is $40 for BBG members, $45 for non members, and the materials are included in the cost of the class.  Bring pruners and gloves.  To register, or for more information, log on to www.berkshirebotanical.org.

  • Tuesday December 1 – Wednesday, December 2, 9:00 am – Greens Market Workshops

    Learn how to design extraordinary decorative wreaths and holiday accents, and at the same time, support the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum’s holiday fund raising efforts, by crafting items for its Wreath Auction and Greens Market. Workshops will be held in the Coachman’s House. All materials supplied. No fee. Come either Tuesday, December 1 beginning at 9 am, or Wednesday, December 2 at 9 am, or both days if you are willing!

    Located in historic New Bedford, Massachusetts on a full city block of gardens, this national landmark was built for whaling merchant William Rotch, Jr. in 1834. Designed by Richard Upjohn, the House is one of the finest surviving examples of residential Greek Revival architecture.

    The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum is so named for the three prominent families who resided at 396 County Street. The house and gardens chronicle 150 years (1834-1981) of economic and social life in the city, as reflected in the lives and stories of those who lived and worked at the property.

    Furnished period rooms display the decorative arts, furniture and belongings of the families and time frame. The Museum offers permanent and changing exhibits, lecture series, community and educational programs.

    A partner in the New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park, the Museum joins the city’s cultural and educational institutions in embracing, celebrating and learning from the rich legacy of this maritime community.

    On Saturday, September 19, beginning at 11 a.m., Russell’s Garden Center design staff in Wayland, Massachusetts, will go over the basics of wreath design and techniques of gluing, wiring, and bow-making to help you make a door-sized wreath decorated for Fall. $45 fee.
