Saturday, May 21, 10:00 am – 11:30 am – Planting Inside the Box (Raised Beds)

There are a multitude of benefits to planting inside the box. Raised beds provide gardeners the opportunity to tailor the soil mixture, extend the growing season, deter weeds and pests, and plant a custom design. In this Gore Place workshop on Saturday, May 21 at 10 am, long-time farmer Scott Clarke will demonstrate techniques for planting flowers and vegetables in a raised bed.

Learn how to lay out a square-foot garden, choose plants that are good companions, make use of vertical space, and plant directly into a bale of hay. Explore ways to develop the soil without the use of synthetic fertilizers so that your soil can feed the plants and vice versa. Come ready to dig in and cultivate ideas for your own home garden! Gore Place is located at 52 Gore Place in Waltham.

Attendees will receive a coupon for the annual Spring Plant Sale on May 27-29. Tickets ($25) can be purchased online at http://plantinginsidethebox.bpt.me/.  Image from www.houzz.com.
