Wild Knoll Foundation Garden in York, Maine, is a living artwork planted on the footprint of the former home of writer May Sarton, who kept the tending of her gardens central to her creative life, as chronicled in The House by the Sea.
Artist Carly Glovinski created a new garden based on its original architectural drawings, with each “room” featuring a unique color scheme. The property where the garden grows is home to nationally renowned artist residency, Surf Point.
On June 27 at 10 am, Carly will share the story of creating and tending the garden, and how it has become a site for connection and creative incubator.
This Digging Deeper Host reports the following Terrain Notes about the garden: We will gather at Wild Knoll, on the mowed lawn area in front of stone terrace and garden. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art will host its annual Art in Bloom event from Friday, June 12 through Sunday, June 14. During this three-day event, the museum will showcase up to 15 floral sculptures created by area garden clubs, professional florists, and independent floral designers. Responding to works of art on view, each designer will present an arrangement made from organic matter including seed pods, driftwood, and other natural treasures. Art in Bloom is included in the price of museum admission. Held alongside Ogunquit’s BonAire festival, this vibrant weekend highlights local creativity with a floral-inspired makers market on Friday, a cyanotype workshop, and “Behind the Blooms” designer talks on Saturday and Sunday, and a lively floral market on Sunday to finish the event weekend!

The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, Maine will again present Gardens Aglow Thursdays through Sundays, plus select dates, throughout their beautiful gardens, from 4 – 9 pm. Gardens Aglow is an outdoor, walking event. Weather conditions vary greatly along the Maine coast in the winter. Dress in layers and be aware of snowy and icy weather risks. Please note that parking is limited; consider carpooling with family and friends. The re-imagined Santa’s arrival by lobster boat is a traditional event that got bigger and better last year, with a move to the Nonantum Resort. It will be back at the inn this year. Midweek merriment includes a Cookie Crawl, house tours of the beautifully decorated White Columns, a Merry Market at Maine Art Hill, cookie decorating, art classes and the return of the ever-popular Storybook Christmas for children.

In partnership with the Dover Arts Commission, this summer’s gallery exhibition at the Sarah Orne Jewett House is A Seacoast Garden. This exhibition is inspired by the new collections going on displayed at Hamilton House. This new display examines Elise Tyson’s early 20th century photography of the Hamilton House Gardens and her floral arrangements. Tyson found inspiration for her photography and art in her garden and others along the seacoasts of Maine and New Hampshire. Elise was inspired by the beauty and uniqueness she found in these gardens. A Seacoast Garden weaves together the works of local artists that are interpretations or are inspired by the local seacoast gardens of today with Elise Tyson’s garden photographs. Together, this exhibition examens the unique beauty of seacoast gardens and the purposes they serve today and in the past.

Camden Garden Club is delighted to announce their inaugural Garden Expo, Edible Gardens & Bountiful Tables, will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025. The day-long event will feature speakers Barbara Damrosch and Nancy Harmon Jenkins, as well as a PechaKucha-style presentation, horticultural demonstrations, tablescape displays, and a micro-farm tour. Most activities will take place at the Camden-Rockport Middle School at 34 Knowlton Street in Camden.
