    Decorate your Thanksgiving table with the bounty of the season! Make a beautiful, long-lasting centerpiece in the Williamsburg tradition. Betsy Williams will use fresh fall flowers, fruits, vegetables, fragrant herbs and seasonal berries combined with preserved leaves to celebrate our National Day of Thanks. We will create an arrangement that says abundance! Choose a container suitable for your table from a selection supplied by the instructor.   • Saturday, November 10, 2:00 pm – Fairy Garden Fantasies

    Betsy Williams, author of Are There Fairies at the Bottom of Your Garden? will share flower facts and folklore, and teach participants how to use their creativity to make any garden into a fairy sanctuary, in a program to be held Saturday, November 10 beginning at 2 pm at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, MA.  Tickets: $10.00.   • Saturday, September 29, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Glorious Autumn Pot

    Summer is over but there are still at least 2 months of growing season left. Capture autumn with this container garden. Fill a 14” pot with brilliant mums, richly colored kales, miniature evergreens, English Ivy and other hardy plant material. With proper care your autumn container garden will brighten your doorway or patio until Thanksgiving. Plants often make it through the winter if kept in a sheltered location, and can be planted outdoors in the spring. Betsy Williams will lead this workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, on Saturday, September 29, from 10 – noon.  $65 for Tower Hill members, $70 for non-members.   • Thursday, September 6, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Old Plants in a New Land: 17th Century and Beyond

    Betsy Williams, a popular speaker at garden clubs, horticultural conferences, herb festivals, and botanical gardens throughout the U.S. will discuss the history of the important herbs brought here by immigrants, at this Thursday, September 6 Medford Garden Club program. When the English settlers arrived on the coast of Massachusetts in the early 17th century, the roots and seeds of those plants necessary for their health and well being came with them. Learn the story of some of those herbs and how they are still used today. The lecture begins at 7 pm at the Medford Public Library, 111 High Street in Medford, and is free and open to the public.

  • Saturday, March 31, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Spring Table Garden

    Plant a colorful spring garden with instructor Betsy Williams, to grow indoors while you are waiting for the outdoors to bloom. Fill an attractive basket with flowering plants accented with ferns, ivies and moss. When summer arrives, plant the bulbs in the garden and transplant the fern, violas, primroses and ivy to a damp shady spot to enjoy all summer. The Tower Hill Botanic Garden class will be held Saturday, March 31, from 10 – 12 and the fee is $65 for THBG members, $70 for non members. All materials included.   • Saturday, February 18, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – European Container Garden for Indoors

    Plant a lovely winter garden for your table or window to enjoy indoors while winter still holds sway outside. European container gardens combine potted plants with fresh cut flowers in a decorative container. With proper care, the plants will last for many months and the fresh flowers can be replaced when desired. This Tower Hill Botanic Garden workshop, led by Betsy Williams on Saturday, February 18 from 10 – noon, costs $65 (THBG members) or $70 (nonmembers.)     Apples, one of our most ancient and useful fruits, have played an important role in fall and winter celebrations for many centuries.  Learn apple history and traditions while you make an apple candle to decorate your seasonal table, a spicy apple pomander for gift giving, fragrant old-fashioned mast balls, and ornaments with apple-cinnamon dough.  You’ll also create a winter apple potpourri to take home.  Please bring floral scissors and an apron to this class, which will take place at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 22 from 10 – 1.  Betsy Williams of The Proper Season will instruct.  This is a messy class, she says, so be sure to wear old clothes.  THBG members $60, non-members $65.  Register at www.towerhillbg.org, or call 508-869-6111.

This workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden will take place Saturday, February 5 from 10:30 – 12:30, and will be led by Betsy Williams of The Proper Season.   • Saturday, November 20, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Moss Topiary Trees for Winter Celebrations

    On Saturday, November 20, from 1 – 3, the same day that Betsy Williams of The Proper Season conducts the Thanksgiving Centerpiece workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, she will also teach a workshop where students will make a set of three mossy, stylized topiary trees set in terra cotta pots, in either round or cone shapes.  Please bring an apron and floral scissors.  THBG members $54, non-members $60.  To register, log on to www.towerhillbg.org.
